I presume next moves will be ban on CocaCola/Pepsi and MacDonalds :)

McDonalds already moved out of the Crimea, I think.

Yup, they did, and they offered relocation fees for those who want to flee the occupation.

This is great news! Those who oppose the democratic decision of the Crimean people to reunite with Russia are exposed as just more corporate dupes.

While Americans get sick and fat eating the Monsanto frankenfood grown by Mexican and Guatemalan slave labor and ok'ed by their government because of the large corporate cash donations given to the Obama and Bush regimes, the Crimean people will have the opportunity to eat fresh, natural produce locally produced.

California and Washington tried to join the 21st century and ban GMOs last year but the corporations that run the U.S. government crushed that effort. Liberal-minded people in Californian and Washington may be starting to wish they lived in a more progressive federal state like the RF and not a neo-con, CEO-run backwater like the US.

Oh shit, I thought only the top cadre of geneticists knew about this. I guess the cat is out of the bag. This whole thing has been a conspiracy to sweep the side effects under the rug. All us geneticists actually hate knowledge, truth and most especially the experimental method.

Yeah, except as a biochem student who will be entering into medical research, I think I know scads more about the processes behind genetic engineering than does the rank GMO reactionaries. It's fun to pick apart the vague beliefs of the righteously organic consumers.

Like I said, people are afraid of GM because they don't understand it, and rather than take the time to learn about this wonderful opportunity, they believe any old popular misconception about how it causes such-and-such. Much like the anti-vaccination crowd who believe that immunizations causes autism or whatever. In short, willful ignorance.

LA Times wrote:Monsanto’s transgenic plants (sometimes called genetically modified organisms, or GMOs) are contaminating organic crops, introducing the unwanted genetic material into their fields. In an ironic turn, the company has often responded by suing farmers for patent infringement, even if those farmers were desperate to keep that material out of the crops and, in fact, if their crops would lose their value because of the Monsanto genes.

I'm not saying that in the above post, I'm simply expressing concern Symmetry supports total privatization of water and a single-company monopoly on food access. Certainly he can advocate for FrankenCrops and a repeal of the EU labeling laws all he wants on the basis of his libertarian principles or whatever his reason for opposing GMO labeling is, I'm just surprised he would go even further and call for a control of global food stocks by a single multinational owned by the Bush-donor Bogle family.

Cute. Don't get me wrong, the logistics and legalities of transgenic crops are a minefield, but so is any emerging tech. That does not change the underlying benefit nor the worthiness of the endeavor.

To oppose genetic modification (which btw has been happening since the agricultural revolution whether one likes to admit it or not) based on something like that would be akin to oppose space flight or the mission to land on the moon because it would cause confusion about land ownership.

Banning it out of fear or apprehension won't make it go away. You of all people should realize the pragmatism in this. GMOs are the way of the future with the growing population, and companies will find a way, regardless of legality, to invest and manufacture such goods. The key is to open it up to maximize its benefits for everyone and not solely the corporations.

So your dreams are to be on Monsantos payroll? I think that your opinion is irrelevant from now on, you goal is to to work for the bad guys :D
BTW Why are you dragging anti-vaccination into this? I hope you are not thinking that those that are anti GMO are also anti-vaccination

All I know is that Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, and France provide universal healthcare, sensible firearms regulations, social safety nets, and mandatory GMO labeling.

The U.S. does not.

I understand some people hate things like universal healthcare, sensible firearms regulations, social safety nets, and mandatory GMO labeling. We'll have to chalk it up to a conflict of visions.

Kudos to Russia for joining all major industrialized nations (except the U.S. and Canada) by enacting sensible GMO safety regulations in their integral territory.

There are these things called analogies, and what they do is to draw comparisons between two fields or things to likewise come to conclusions based on the similarities. I already stated the purpose of using the anti-vaxxers in my post.
