The most recent written copies of those were hundreds of years after that person had lived, and only a few copies were found, yet we still believe that they are true. However, the Bible was only written 20years after the fact, and hundreds of original copies were found, and people refuse to accept it.

You are comparing apples with oranges. Plato's books are philosophical works based on arguments. Manipulating them has very little advantage as they are judged according to the argumentation. Whilst the bible is of a completely different genre. It's a listing of tales.

What about Josephus? What if the tales are true? Isn't that what history is? True tales?

Historiography is tough road to go down.

I guess you could start with E.H. Carr's "What is History?" for a start to find the answer.

A never ending dialogue between a historian and his facts, is one of his definitions I think.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_Is_History%3F

Unsurprisingly, most professional historians would balk at the idea of "true tales" being the definition.

That's besides the point. You can't compare the Bible with Plato as much as you can't compare Darwin with Keynes.
Neither Plato nor Aristotle were historians, nor were they novel writers.

Josephus may have had a chip on his shoulder, but what about him? The references to Christianity may be later additions.

(1) Greeks did not invent the earth. The earth was invented for Greeks.
(2) Greeks were not Christians two millenia before Jesus, but it appears obvious that Jesus was Greek (swarthy? check. beard? check. supremely intelligent and learned? check.)
(3) Hey, it's not the Greeks fault that everyone has to steal our shit. Maybe if your ancestors had the wherewithal to climb out of the bushes they inhabited up until the 6th century AD and do something constructive instead of destructive, we wouldn't have this discussion. Let's see... where does the word barbarian come from again? Oh yeah, it stems from a Greek word meaning "not Greek."

Actually it stems from the Greeks' inability to understand other languages. They thought other languages sounded like "bah-bah-bah". A modern equivalent would be "Blahblarians".

A: No. The First Law of Thermodynamics clearly states otherwise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_law_of_thermodynamics

And it's an idiot...

Pay particular attention to the phrase "the total energy of the system is constant."

SO you believe that something can be made from nothing?

The problem is that you're attempting to apply an incomplete logic to nature, and there is a disparity between the logic of humanity and the logic of nature (or reality).

Using logic in everyday science and engineering is all well and good, but you must keep in mind that our math and rules that we set for a frame of reference is just that, a reference and not wholly encompassing of reality.

It's easy to say that the idea of a creator is a logical necessity. I can certainly see the logic there, but it's the logic built upon an incomplete knowledge. However, I agree with Hawking in that a creator is not necessary to the beginning of the universe, and here's why: 350 years ago, when Redi disproved spontaneous generation in his famous maggot experiments, it was a prevailng belief that maggots and therefore flies spontaneously came to be, as if from the aether. There was little knowledge of microscopic life, and the idea that life sized creatures can be borne from invisible matter was inconceivable to many. The history of biology is full of such examples.

And that's my point. Where the proponents of spontaneous generation or Lamarckian evolution or whatever other scientific theory that has fallen by the wayside went wrong is not that they were dumb, just that they operated upon conventional logic of the time and therefore could not imagine something which defied their incomplete logic.

If you had never learned about bacteria and viruses, would you believe some guy who told you that a invisible speck of an organism about a millionth of your size was responsible for your illness? Most likely you would not.

Similarly, while I may not completely grasp the finer points of the Big Bang Theory, I'm not gonna say it's wrong because it defies conventional wisdom. Experimental data certainly seems to support it, and it does not defy the laws of thermodynamics.

And besides, depending on God to create reality is a lazy cop-out--where did he come from? A paradoxical endless loop arises, and asserting that there must be a something to create applies to God as well.

So, tough titties and suck it up, cupcake. You're not the center of the universe.

I like putting it in perspective.....if the earth's history was compressed into a 24 hour period, the existence of man would be less than the final 2 minutes....we really need to get over ourselves.

Kool, that's not what the book says. The book says man is as old as the earth, well maybe a day or two younger.

Of course, but you do know that day doesn't always mean 24 hours and we can use different definitions for the same word, even for the same word used multiple times in the same context within the same passage, without being in any way inconsistent or dishonest.... (according to those who literally believe the book we can anyway) ;)

You can't get rid of us. A lot of us have moved to the US and set up shop here - doing our thing, making money, taking seats of [real] power. And hey, if you succeed in your wish, you still have to deal with democratic forms of government, art, literature, theater, science, mathematics, and pretty much everything else originating with the Greeks. So good luck with that! Like I said, your ancestors couldn't hold a candle to Greeks - they literally thought a candle was magic and would drop it if they had a chance to hold it.

How does it feel knowing that your ancestors were physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually inferior to Greeks? How does it feel knowing that in order to advance beyond the post-neanderthal stage you had to adopt Greek customs, economics, science, and government? I bet it feels bad.

Planting vineyards

Pindar Vineyards was founded in 1979 by the entrepreneurial Dr. Herodotus “Dan” Damianos. Starting off with just 30 acres of uncultivated land in Peconic on the North Fork of Long Island, Dr. Damianos envisioned grand possibilities for his fledgling vineyard, named after the Hellenic poet from Sparta. His dream is being realized as the expanding Pindar currently encompasses nearly 550 acres of prime viticultural property, making it Long Island’s largest vineyard.

It is obvious to everyone (except apparently you) that the interests of Greeks are the interests of every freedom-loving, wealth-loving, personal-improving people. The interests of Americans coincides directly with the interests of Greeks. After all, the United States has borrowed or stolen many of the things Greeks invented. This is similar to all successful nations and cultures: everything they hold dear was once held dear by Greeks.
