When I was a kid I hitchhiked everywhere. Crossed the continent 3 times.
Whenever I'd get stuck without a ride for a while and nobody was stopping, I'd always tell myself, "When I grow up and have a car, I'll pick up every hitchhiker I see." Lol. It's like those promises we make ourselves not to be assholes like our parents. Just get ready for disappointment. Nowadays I almost never pick up hitchhikers. Not that I have any aversion to it or that I'm a totally inconsiderate prick, but most of the time either I'm in a big truck with a stopping distance of like 600 metres, or I'm in just too much of a hurry, or I have 20 bags of groceries on the seats and I don't see how the two people and a dog could possibly fit.
