Tzor - Pope Says Climate Change Due to Man

So, now that the pope says so, you going to believe it, or are you still going to be a mouth piece for the oil companies and big business?

So because the noted scientist, who also just happens to be pope, or in other words, the leader of one of the world's largest religions, makes a proclamation on a subject, it should now be accepted as fact? If that's your criteria, you're not the brightest individual I've ever met.

Bollocks.

First of all, it's not a matter of faith or morals.

Second of all, I want to read it for myself.

Because I'm Serbian, DUH. NOW GO GET ME SOME BEER, OLD MAN. And stop making me confuse you with 2dimes. I swear I think you two are the same person.

And actually, my confusion comes from the original post. I misread it, and typed my response based on something that wasn't actually there, then reread the post, said "fuck it" and posted my post anyway. Gotta maintain my daily average post count!

When I received my excommunication, it was in comic sans. I don't accept any papal document not in that font.

Thanks. It is 82 pages. It might take a while to read it all. Perhaps after work.

Haha, I love these. The implication that one has to defend every single thing someone they voted for or believe in ever says or ever does, and if they can't/don't, that somehow proves they are wrong about everything else. hmm, let me try one....

Hey NotYou2! Obama says marriage is between a man and a woman and blessed by God. okay, go!

Yes, it's very confusing since they both have "2" in their username. Here's a tip, Serbia: If you can imagine the poster eating a booger either directly before or after the post, it's ten-to-one odds it's been written by notyou2.

(cross-posting my Facebook comments)

The Pope's latest encyclical, Laudato si', is being billed by much of the media as the pope's moral case for acting on climate change. However, this letter is actually far broader in scope than merely being a missive on global warming. Rather, its central thesis is that responsible stewardship of the environment and a commitment to social justice and a meaningful ethics are uniquely interconnected. Consequently we cannot have true environmental protection and leadership without understanding both that humans are themselves part of nature and that so much of our environmental wrongdoing is the result of insufficient consideration of the interests of those who do not have economic or political power.

Most importantly, this is not a piece of writing about environmental degradation, even though some time is spent discussing that issue. I say that because this is very explicitly an optimistic essay at its core, not a negative plaint about what we are doing wrong. It is a call for a renewed vitality in the way we live and a renewed pursuit of social justice, with the warning that ills like climate change are what occur when we fail to be true stewards.

Explicitly religious parts aside, this is a remarkable and inspiring literary work.
