You know, technically speaking, the VOTE on independence was July 2nd. It took them two more days to approve the wording of the declaration.

------I wasn't talking about the vote. I was talking about...The others talking Jefferson from freeing everyone. On July 1st...So we would look united in the eyes of France. We had diplomats in France trying to get France to join us. If the north tried to take the slaves from the south. The South was going to walk.
