Picture Pages?

Postby Funkyterrance on Sat Sep 05, 2015 2:29 pm

So I've got some Bill Cosby paraphernalia hanging around my house because, well, he's a funny shit. But should I hide or destroy all this stuff before I have a conscientious lady(or gentleman) friend over to my place? Like, is it really all that un-pc?

Kids Say the Darndest Things was Art Linkletter, not Bill.

Bill Cosby was pretty hilarious back in the 60s, before Fat Albert. He was even mildly funny in the 70s. Once he got on TV and became all Wholesome All-American Dad he became boring as shit. I can't think of a single funny Bill Cosby joke more recent than 1976.

If Bill's legacy was Buck Buck and Revenge and Driving in San Franciso, I would mourn his downfall, but since most people remember him for that catastrophically tiresome, preachy, moldy, saccharine TV show in the 80's, I'm glad to see his memory fade.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kids_Say_the_Darndest_Things
Kids Say the Darndest Things is an American comedy series hosted by Bill Cosby that aired on CBS as a special on February 6, 1995, then as a full season from January 9, 1998 to June 23, 2000. It was based on a popular feature with the same name in Art Linkletter's radio show House Party and television series, Art Linkletter's House Party, which together aired mostly five days a week from 1945 to 1969.[1][2]

The premise of the show is that the host would ask a question to a child (around the age of 3 to 8) who would usually respond in a "cute" way. The show sometimes would "flashback" to Linkletter's show, Art Linkletter's House Party, with Cosby joined onstage by Linkletter to introduce the vintage clips. It would show kids (of the time), with their same "cute" reactions of whatever Linkletter would ask or say to them. Cosby also provided some of the humor in the show.

Okay, so I guess you're right too. Cosby did do a remake of Linkletter's show. I didn't have cable between 1982 and 2007, so I wasn't aware of it. From the sounds of the above, it was a blatant ripoff, with almost nothing new in it. Nothing there contradicts what I said. Cosby stopped being funny in '72, when Fat Albert came out, and he was completely boring by about 1976. If by 2000 he was reduced to imitating someone else's schtick (and even had to rely on cameos by the original artist to get laughs) that's completely consistent with the continuing collapse of his once-great comedic talent.

Of course he's been funny past 1982 ffs. My worry is that all this drama may have permanently crushed his comedic spirit.
