I was born in London and have spent a fair amount of time in Paris. I like them both, though I have to say that Parisians are on average more rude and abrupt than anyone except New Yorkers.

It seems to be a cultural thing for them...in a city so crowded, you almost HAVE to be assertive to the point of rude aggressiveness to get anywhere or anything. At least that's a paraphrase of what a guy who's originally from New York told me.

There are dozens of cities more crowded than New York and yet in which people still manage to be polite and considerate towards other people.

Actually New York is a plethora of places to visit and each place is somewhat unique. To give you an example, here is a map looking at all the food regions of Manhattan.

One of the biggest gripes I have about New York is how they put their garbage on the street for collection because they don't have usable alleys (I guess that's the reason?) - so one day a week you just have bags of refuse sitting on the sidewalks

The Brooke Astor Reading Room in the Rare Manuscripts Section of the NY Public Library is a treasure, though.

Sounds like a good place to meet up with some nice single malt to relax and read. No real point of both of us being there because we would each be reading instead of having a conversation but I would love to do that. We could even invite metsfanmax.

People I think misunderstand New Yorkers. They feel short of time, and they're abrupt because they have to get on to that next thing. When they say "whaddya want" they mean "cut to the chase".
But why the f*ck they're all in such a hurry is a mystery to me.
