China is a major government, yes.

So... what year does Chinese history claim it discovered America, and who did the discovering?

Zheng He, as I said earlier in this thread.

The Chinese (mostly under Zheng He's leadership) had already explored and mapped places such as Africa and the Americas by about 1420.

------As Vikings traveled in large groups. I'm sure Leif Erikson had a couple dozen ships(small).
------Now let's look at Great Columbus's fleet Given to him by The Spanish court. MIGHTY EUROPEAN POWER..THE SPANISH ARMADA. 3 Dinky ass ships 50ft to 70ft in length. A funny side note. On the Day Columbus started his voyage. The King And Queen of Spain. Shipped over 60,000 Jews out of Spain(The Inquisition). Towards the Eastern Med.(Ottoman Empire). That's where all the ships went.
------ THE EMPEROR OF CHINA GAVE Zheng He a fleet of over 250 ships. Most of them 400ft,300ft,200ft and his smallest ships were 120ft long. Not to mention the 400ft long ships were 170ft wide. MIGHTY EUROPE..   OH!NO! The World is flat, we are going to fall off. Columbus didn't even prove the world was round. People outside of Europe Already knew the World wasn't flat. Now that's sad.Poor Europe lost in the Dark Ages all those years. ;) ConfederateSS.out!(The Blue and Silver Rebellion)... :D Who kept the World's knowledge safe. Not WHITE EUROPE...But Africa...Egypt...THE GREAT LIBRARIES OF ALEXANDRIA!!!!! Lucky for now we have the internet. I now have a weird feeling of H.G. Well's time machine. When in the future the time traveler grabs a book and it turns to dust. OUCH!!!!

The only reason why this is so it because "United States of America" is too long to pronounce.
Not only that, but originally "United States of America" was a plural noun.

A large portion of the "United States" was explored by the Spain.
Spain sold a portion to France.
France (actually Napoleon) sold it to the United States.
The United States took some of it by force.

A large area was explored by France who went south from Canada.

Here's another map ...

Others had been to North America way before that. But that's ok. I still call for Columbus Day to be changed to He Day.

Bernie, cue the sexist card.

Zheng He seems cool. He is one of my top favorite eunuchs. He is also of the Hui people according to wikipedia. Nice.
