Whoever hates Bush but respects Obama is a moron. Obama has carried on Bush's legacy just fine. He should be adopted into the Bush family as an honorary brother.

Of course he has. That's why so many of his policies run counter to what Bush would have proposed :V

And which policies has he instituted which are so radically different, exactly?

The continuation of our aggresion in the godforsaken desert?

The continuation of the patriot act (which he promised to end while compaigning for his first term)?

Or maybe the expansion of drone strikes?

The repeated denials of information guaranteed by the FOIA?

Obamacare? Lol, a pandering to insurance companies rather than real healthcare reform. Don't get me wrong, it's more affordable than what was out there before, but it's a joke. My mom is...unwell, so it's a relief that she can get insurance which she can afford, but the whole system is a polished turd.

If we're being honest, Obama will be remembered as the consummate politician, i.e. the guy who spun lies and sold us more of the same shit. While the rest of the world may love him, supposedly, they should take off the rose-colored lenses.

Again it comes down to a bias of the two parties. People think the Dems and Reps are different, but they really aren't.

-TG

You can add to the list:

continuing Bush's bank bailout and not prosecuting a single banker despite overwhelming evidence that institutionalized fraud and balance-sheet doctoring underlay the 2008 crash.

continuing the policy of extrajudicial imprisonment at Gitmo and other locations despite an absolute promise made during his campaign to shut down Gitmo and restore the rule of law

As much power as he has, the president is still only one man. He does not have all the power in the world, he CAN be, and has, been overruled by the other branches of the government.

So yes, he has scaled back aggression where he could, but to comment on at least one of your point...he's not the one that has the power to declare war, only Congress can do that.

He can work to repeal the Patriot Act, but without co-operative judges, he can do little on that, either, as that is ultimately up to the Supreme Court to rule it unconstitutional.

Obamacare, at least he is honestly trying, don't deny it, if he wasn't he wouldn't have made such a big deal of it.

LOL. Just as a for instance, name one date on which Obama has asked Congress to repeal the Patriot Act. Yeah, of course he can't repeal it without Congressional action. But please, go ahead and try to name a single instance in which he has stood before Congress and asked them to repeal it.

Don't kid yourself. The Repocrats and the Demlicans are the slices of bread in a giant fuck-the-people sandwich. Only their rhetoric on the campaign trail is different; their behaviour once in office is indistinguishable.

If it was identical they would agree more on all ze issues!

Logical fallacy right here :P

Not at all. What they say bears no relation to what they do.

What they say -- their rhetoric on the campaign trail -- is substantially different, that much is true.

What they do -- actual legislative action once in office -- does not significantly differ.

Since actions speak louder than words, they indicate that in fact the Repocrats and Demlicans do agree on all substantive issues.

Indeed. The differences in public face are enough to convince the people voting for them that the two parties are different ("my opponent supports baby-killing" or "my opponent wants to take your guns") but those issues are trivialities compared to the real legislations and actions of our esteemed leaders.

protecting people from nightmares gets more votes than promising dreams

politicians say what they are told by pollsters and focus groups is popular to say, and politicians don't say what pollsters and focus groups tell them is unpopular to say, and then depending on who they are talking to and even when. That's why Trump is doing well, he doesn't seem to care about political correctness and obviously that is resonating with a lot of potential voters. People are fed up with the same bs over and over again, or else it just doesn't work as well or as easily as it used to. Earlier today I saw Bill Clinton hunting and using power tools on some old video (1995) promising energy independence and better healthcare for lower prices... and politicians will keep getting away with it until the people stop accepting it.

If we had Trump-esque leadership in 2000...9/11 may have never happened. Just saying.

Trust me I'm not saying anything nice about Trump. Most people don't give a shit about anything in China. Looks like an even playing field.

I was replying to muy_thaiguy's comment about European views of Trump. Sorry if it upsets you that foreigners who live thousands of miles away are not fascinated by your country's leadership race.

Everyone must be fascinated with American politics. We practically run this world either by military or economics. Sorry to say but as of now almost every country follows in the shadow of America. Our next president will play a factor in your Chinese economy.

Not even remotely close to being plausible. Justin was born in 1971. Maggie didn't meet the Rolling Stones until 1976 and probably didn't sleep with Mick until 1977.

Besides, Justin looks quite a bit like Pierre.

At least he isn't another one of Mike Vernon's love children. They seem to be everywhere north of the border.

And Uncle Xi is very cute, like a cuddly bear.

You are correct mrswdk

America now has more wealth and income inequality than any major developed country on earth, and the gap between the very rich and everyone else is wider than at any time since the 1920s.

There is something profoundly wrong when the top one-tenth of one percent owns almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent

Lemme take a stab.....

The Black Death was in the 1600s.

IIRC some of the old plague burial pits are still dangerous, and have to be actively avoided during subway and building foundation construction.
