Your first big break

What was your first injury that broke something other than your pride?

Me- a broken finger playing rugby.

I should really have put a "Nothing can break me!" Option in the poll for the floaters.

Does breaking someone else's bones count?
Or does breaking a tooth count?

broke thumb twice (once with a bad fall on my ski pole, once wasted falling from a bunk bed onto a desk)
broke a vertebra twice (once canyoning, once snowboarding)
broke ankle once (downhill joyride on a bicycle)

and that's about it

Finger.

Loading fieldstone onto a truck, my father dropped one on my hand. I suppose I was lucky it was only one finger broken.

I once got jumped by 6 dudes and they broke my nose. I guess that's what happens when you pull a knife on one of them 2 years earlier. Payback a bitch.

Ok, it seems you never took any physical risks, girlie-boy.

I broke my fingers and toes, more than I can count. Broke my nose, ribs and 2 vertebrae. All on different occasions, sports, fights and one car wreck.

Now at my advance age, I try to avoid fights, contact sports and driving recklessly. Guess you can call me girlie-man now.

And that, my friends, is why you should eat a proper, nutritious diet in your early years. Otherwise you'll end up like Mr Glass over here.

I've played competitive rugby for about 13 years now, among other things.

As a heads up, "competitive rugby" is code for "touch rugby".

My first big break came when I auditioned for the cast of my local civic theater's production of Annie when I was 14. I got cast as the dancing eggplant. Only later did I find out there was no part for a dancing eggplant in Annie. Nonetheless, my performance killed and I was lauded by all the neighborhood weeklies. It opened the door to my current starring role on Conquer Club OT.

Well geee, you didn't even break a single tiny bone or nose in those 13 years? Was this league for "special need kids" ?

Ah, but what was your first?

I was constantly breaking fingers and toes, when I was a young tike. I believe I broke one of my fingers when I was 4 or 5.

Arm twice (once in a fall, once in a car wreck). A few ribs and several fingers. The arm was first.

shattered my calcanus(?)-heel bone- when I was winding up for one of my trademark Paul coffeyesque rushes when my skate blew apart and I smashed my heel against the boards. hurt real lots, that one. broke 2 toes when a dumb roughneck I had decided to drop his end of a pup joint we were carrying, idiot. he was fired within a week and I was put on modified light for a month...

Across the three teams I played for during that time I saw one person break their back playing juniors, but other than that I can't recall anyone ever breaking a bone in a game.
