Yeah, that is a WWII remnant. They had to change it to secondary school during WWII to get away from the nazism. Same as the changing of the names of several communities.

Now this is going to be very complex and too complex for this crowd so I'll keep it as short as possible. Before I do I need to implement the standard disclaimer that we are not talking about the average person within the nation. Not every German solder was a member of the SS. Not every Confederate solder was a member of the Fire Eaters.

The Fire Eaters (a movement that started in the early 19th century) were extreme racists. Unlike those in the late 18th century who thought the "peculiar institution" was abhorrent but not easily solvable, this new group actually thought it was just and proper for the white man to "rule" over the black man.

After loosing the Civil War, there was a brief period of enforced equality but slowly as the Democratic Party's paramilitary unit, the KKK regained lost ground from the Republicans the racial grip was restored and tightened. Laws were enacted including purity laws.

Laws so strict that when the Germans considered them for their own use, they had to considerably water them down because it would have condemned a significant number of Germans as being "impure."

So yes, comparing them is easy, and sometimes in a bizarre way fin because they are far more connected than you might otherwise think.
