There has been a lot of hand-wringing over gun control legislation recently, and a criticism from the right has been that liberals do not know guns well enough to effectively legislate. As a gun owner and halfbreed redneck, I want to assume the mantle of educator so that we can all talk about gun rights from an illuminated perspective. Feel free to post your own facts too! I will of course be making corrections as necessary.

Starting off:

The "AR" in AR-15 stands for "assault rifle."

What is commonly called a "clip" is actually called a "cartridge."

A safe gun is an unloaded gun, so always look down the barrel to make sure a magazine isn't chambered.

For long guns, have a friend check for you.

That's just relatively safe. A Colt 45 can still do a pretty good deal of damage if it falls right on your big toe.

277 fps of recoil. Gods. 15 fps is the world recognized goal set by military to stay at or around so as not to give the shooter the twitch anticipating pain to come. An aught six is in the 20s. My .458 mag is 50s and I don't like shooting that more than once in an hour.
