LOL this is great:

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss has warned Russia it will face "severe economic consequences" if it invades Ukraine.

Every six months for the last 10 years, Obama, Trump, or Biden has put "unprecedented" economic sanctions on Russia. But they always sanction economic activity that's non-existent. Like the U.S. banned the U.S. government from buying Russian treasury bonds, something it never did anyway. And the U.S. also banned American companies from buying Russian arms from Rosoboronexport. Which is, of course, the only reason you don't see any T-72 tanks driving around Dubuque.

If Ukraine gets smashed - as it should - expect Liz Truss to ban Russia from selling maple syrup to Canada and tulips to the Netherlands.

Well I don't. There are a small number of individual Native Americans, however, Indians as a people have been extinct for 100 years. But there's too much money caught up in fishing, timber, mineral, and gaming rights to acknowledge they don't exist so we have 500 museum tribes led by MBAs who are 75% lily white with paler skin that bigtoughralf who are playing out a fantasy reinforced by the collective imagination of hundreds of millions of Americans who have seen Dances With Wolves too many times.

And that is a funny article. In Washington and Oregon there are a few different tribes who sell totem poles and put totem poles outside their longhouses ... which is an "ancient" tradition that dates back to the 1900s. Totem poles are a Tlingkit thing that never went that far south until it became a sought-after item in gift shops. Now it's a sacred talisman of the spirit of coyote or some concocted gibberish.

Get out of the house Saxi and stop pretending you wouldn't run for president as a democrat if they money was right.

You're may have a point, guys as pasty as me pretending to be some sort of indigenous activist or leader. Typically claiming to be Metis with no French ancestry, because the other word has become lost. Might be a bit too common.

However just because they are not some racially pure person like you, Joe Goebells, the Hatfields, the McCoys, the Hapsburgs, etc. etc. etc... does not mean they cannot be part of, or even the leader of their extended family.

Come up here and I'll take you touring, we might even get some good jerky and fry bread.

Honestly I gotta agree with you it's all kabuki (no ralph, not bukake that's different) with the sanctions. Like initially the very first round changed behavior, but once they were in place all subsequent rounds have been sanctioning things that aren't occurring (mostly because of already existing sanctions).

The US could sanction Russian brides. They are still advertised.

Did you see this, 2dimes?

A Canadian medical researcher who rose to become the nation’s top voice on indigenous health has been ousted from her government job and her university professorship after suspicious colleagues investigated her increasingly fanciful claims of Native American heritage and learned she was a fraud.

Colleagues began to doubt Bourassa’s story as she began to add claims of Anishinaabe and Tlingit heritage to her tale — and took to dressing in stereotypically indigenous fashion.

It started to unravel in 2019, when she appeared in full tribal regalia — draped in an electric blue shawl, with a feather in her partially braided hair — to give a TEDx Talk at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.

“My name is Morning Star Bear,” she said tearfully as the crowd cheered.

“I’m Bear Clan. I’m Anishinaabe Métis from Treaty Four Territory,” she proclaimed as she described an impoverished childhood beset by violence.

Far from being a member of the Métis nation, as she had long claimed, a laborious trace of Bourassa’s family tree revealed that her supposedly indigenous ancestors were in fact immigrant farmers who hailed from Russia, Poland and Czechoslovakia.

The United States Senate does not share Biden's sense of urgency about Ukraine.

I'd argue it's more accurate, Trump is trying to grab my policy pussy and I'm only going along with it because he's rich

And even when sanctions do bite, they don't change anything. Look at North Korea, Cuba or Iran. Sanctioned into the ground and still doing all the exact things that prompted the sanctions in the first place. The only things sanctions do is punish ordinary civilians for living in a country the West doesn't like.

I could potentially be persuaded to support bukkake import controls though.

I am fully in favor of bukkake exports, you can import all the loads you want and I'm fine with that. It's 2021 after all

Regarding the peculiar habit of people like that one, I wrote, "Might be too comon." I think I did see the story when it happened. I'm not sure anything I hear about happening in many universities, is relevant to real life anymore.

I guess since you can't come up and meet any First Nations people, you probably won't see one in your house. I don't even blame you for not believing they exist.

Democratically elected President of El Salvador Nayib Bukele has issued a warning to Americans that Old Joe is using U.S. taxpayer money to interfere in Salvadoran elections by underwriting the violent Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front. To defend democracy, Old Joe and the kleptocratic Biden family must be driven from power; by hook or by crook.

Russia's troop movements are a red herring, but the program can anyway be inferred from Putin's falsehoods. In fact he's a pretty direct read, sometimes he isn't really trying to convince so much as to taunt the west with BS and bolster nationalist support - like when he won World Cup hosting rights, explaining he wouldn't be in attendance at the announcement because he wouldn't wish to influence or pressure them (of course it is decided, sealed in an envelope, by then) given the BBC's scurrilous investigation - but we could all conclude that Russia was gonna get that, that clearly Putin knew that. Anyway, sporting events being a useful distraction in Putin's playbook (both Georgia and Crimea): He will spend January finalising the real invasion, which won't show up in satellites, and then during the Olympics, perhaps in that first weekend in February, he will blame Ukraine for trying to do something about it, and then I don't know if Ukraine puts up a fight and what everyone does. But my money's on February.
