Is Ukraine America's Suez?

Postby bigtoughralf on Mon Feb 07, 2022 6:58 pm

The Suez Crisis of 1956 saw the UK and France invade Egypt, only to have the US and USSR immediately pressure them into halting their attack and leaving. This humiliation served as a symbol of the British and French empires' fall from their 19th and early 20th century supremacy.

Today, Biden has displayed America's impotence within Europe in similar fashion:

When asked about Nord Stream 2, the US president said "if Russia invades... again, then there will be longer Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it."

However he did not give specifics, responding to a question about how he would do this by saying: "I promise you we will be able to do it.

No one in Moscow, Paris, London, Berlin etc. really cares what Biden thinks, because Washington has zero capacity to act independently in Europe or to bully European nations into reading from America's script. Europeans will do what is best for Europe, which is cooperating with each other and ignoring American bluster.

Will Ukraine be the moment the US has its diplomatic pants pulled fully down in front of the world? Or will the US find a face-saving way to abandon its sabre rattling and live to bluster another day?

That was the wild, mad-cap retreat from Afghanistan.

With Ukraine, the boxers are also coming off.

Some shithole country no one has ever heard of will have to get the bejeezus bombed out of it fairly soon to restore face.

Sucks to be Burkina Faso right now; not even sure you did anything wrong yet but aware that human rights lawyers at the State Department are busy trying to find something and that the F-35s will be there before summer.

I thought this was already marked here.

Or Obama's 'red line' that Assad ignored without consequence.

US is like the substitute teacher calmly saying 'quiet please' while the class are hollering at each other and flipping tables.
