should holding be allowed?

Postby adam on Sat Mar 18, 2006 7:00 pm

my argument is as follows. there are 3 game types, sequential, double, and no double.... i cant help but think that manipulating the system of a no doubles turn in order to recive 2 consequtive turns is form of cheating the system as the game type is titled NO DOUBLE TURNS.

i have no problem with ppl in double turn games holding out from ending a turn inorder to be the one to enitiate the next round and thus have a double turn.

anywaise, that is my point ov view.
im not sure if lack has givin his 2 cents on the debate

Can you define holding? Is it to wait until the next round starts, thus giving you in effect a double turn?

... Holding is a tactic used by weak players to take an advantage. It's also used by dying (not many armies left) players as a means to survive. It's a cheap way to play, but a lot of people do it.

... Should it be allowed? Not much anybody can do about it in a Freestyle game, eh? The anomymity (sp?) of the internet allows people to commit all manner of behaviors that, in the real world, would see them hit over the head with a heavy object!

The only way to manipulate a NO DOUBLE TURNS game in order to get a DOUBLE turn is if you are playing a DOUBLES or TRIPLES game and you hold in order to grant your teammate a double turn. I can agree with an arguement against the sportsmanship of that... seeing as it is in fact a NO DOUBLE TURN game. With that said, i don't know how you'd police against it, or expect LACKATTACK to spend his valuable time policing it. I guess, for me, if I want to play OLD SCHOOL risk I play sequential. If I want varity I play DOUBLE TURN and work the hold move to my advantage. If I want to play a DOULBES or TRIPLES team game without anyone manipulating a NO DOUBLE TURN game into a DOUBLE TURN GAME, i play sequetial. I'm just happy that LACK has granted us a free site with many different options. And for those of you who can't grasp the strategy of it all or simply refuse to, i say.... THE FUTURE'S NOW, OLD MAN!!!

well, something weird happened in a freestyle game I was playing. It was a no double turns game (7788):

2006-03-18 09:44:01 - HT-Johnao gets a card
2006-03-18 23:58:40 - Incrementing game to round 13
2006-03-19 07:40:52 - HT-Johnao receives 2 armies for holding South America

Now how can that happen? I had the last action and the first action. Is it because the countdown to the next round reached zero?

Yeah, sure... and I think this is right. Other players could play, but lost their turns. Why punish a guy that finished his turn 14 hours before? By the way, other players could play before him in the other round, too... so, no problem, its legal. Maybe it could be a great luck, but john did nothing wrong.
