oh.. a european who thinks the european map is perfect.. my bad then..

never mind - guess I went off-topic since what I really want is Europe 2.0 and that would not be a revamp.

Well europe 2.0 wouldn't be a bad thing at all... why don't you attempt it?

I concur... hence my comment earlier... about however made it didn't live here!!!

The gameplay is good on it - just the locations are dubious...

seconded (thirded??) - for a Brit some of the choices made for territory names are quite strange - not to mention the whole Hadrian's wall thing - fine if it's Roman Britain, but the names are all modern.

I think a GB map should be based on the county structure as can be found here: http://www.abcounties.co.uk/counties/list.htm, but that's more than a revamp

Europe needs a lot of geographical accuracy fixes because it is a disaster in that aspect...

i agree with ue there ben...But if we re-vamp maps i think they should be left as close as possible to the orginal . Like keyogi has done to the middle east map

If you don't fix the geographical accuracy in the Europe map you don't need to revamp it. It's better to create a new Europe map in that case...something that I would like to see actually...a map dedicated to Europe not Europe + North Africa + Middle East...

British Isles is one of most loved and lpayed map...Why should it be changed in the slighest????

Please lets respect the original map makers as much as possible.

Britsh Isles is unique with the hadrians wall, i would hate to see it go....

If you want soemthing different create your own map of the british isles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree. The current purpose of the revamp (I believe) is to increase the quality of the graphics for some of the less than good looking maps. If the someone wants to change the layout of territories, names and borders, they should make another map and just let the revampers work on the graphics only issues.

right guys chill it was jsut a suggestion since the layout of teh map is looking to be changed anyway so that its more geographically correct

WidowMakers and hulmey have pretty much hit it on the head. I see revamps as a way to bring old maps up to current foundry standards and if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Europe is a decent looking map that in my opinion plays pretty well. I think it looks nice enough, but there are a few small issues. Dark army shadows being one, and also the borders in Mediterranea and the sea connection between Albania and Italy. It could also use some new mountains.

Perhaps Europe doesn't need a complete revamp, just some touching up. The XML coordinates could use some work as well.

I was thinking about redoing the mountains on the Hong Kong map. I never really was totally happy with them and probably could have spent a little more time on them. Good idea?

I would also be open to any suggestions for improving game play. If you have any game play issues with Hong Kong map please post in this ancient thread. Or I can start a new thread if need be.

As far as other revamps go...the XML on a lot of the early maps could be tweaked. A lot of the numbers are off center. And Indochina could use a lot of help graphically and maybe some barriers like rivers and mountains.

I think Canada is fine the way it is. I always liked the look of that map.

How about someone fixes the classic map before we go into all of this crazy amount of work on revamps? All the classic map needs is a connection between Scandanavia and Great Britain, since its in the XML but not on the map.

It could easily be done in about 5 seconds by a cartographer who has some power in the foundry (cough keyogi). And it would take lack another 5 seconds to load the new image as he did with world 2.1

We've known about the problem with the classic map for ages, and it is by far the most played map there is. I really think this problem deserves to be fixed, and its the easiest revamp of all.

Good point sully. A very simple fix really. I recall early on in CC there wasn't a link from Greenland to Ontario either and Lack sorted that one out right away...

Also Kamchatka and Mongolia should border each other like they do on a real Risk board.

There's quite a few problems with Classic. The army shadows are useless, as they're too dark to show up blue properly and they cover the territory names in a lot of places. I'd also like to see a bit more contrast in the colours of Asia and Oceania.

But that's the point... the British Isles map IS broke...

The territory names and places are in the wrong places.

Yes its not a actual true re-presntation of the UK and IRELAND, but then that is impossiable to do on this map because you would need to add alot more countries.

But then did the map maker want to create a true represation of the area?

Or did he limit the amount of countries so that the map wouldnt be too large?

Again, why dont you go and make a new Uk? I think there is space and desire for a new UK!

I like the German map gameplay wise, but a lot of names are geographically inaccurate.

E.g. Rheinland is somewhere completely different.
There are umlauts missing in many names, some names are with wrong location to each other.
Bremenhaven should be Bremerhaven and so on.

But as you don't want name changes, keyogi, this one might not fulfill the criterion in thsi thread..
