Texas Hold 'Em

So, something non-political for a change for my sake.

Do you like the game and what's your best finish in a tournament(specify online or live)

I finished 5th in a 90-person(unlimited re-buy until the second break[which was total bullshit as far as I was concerned]) without any re-buys. I could've given the others a run for their money but I was actually late for work(10 hrs in) and was happy to call an all-in with K-10 and walk away with a nice wad as my job kept a roof over my head. I shoulda just gone pro and quit my job that day :D

As far as online goes, my best was back-to-back 2nd place in 360 person tournaments that were really tiny buy-ins but I don't really trust online poker sites anyway. But it earned me a star so, ......what the hay....

Edit: BTW: I'll take your money on pokerscars somtime(if they don't take it from all of us) if you wanna....

Never played in a legit tournament, only with family and friends. It's the most fun poker game, but not the best card game.

I love holdem. I've never been in an official tournament though. I did win a friendly tournament of about 20 people though, walked home with 150$!

I tend to make one extremely stupid mistake a game (like mistaking what i tink is a pair of twos when realy its a 2 and a 3). If I survive that mistake I usually end up in the last two or three.

Ya know, we could all friend each other on Pokerstars/Ultimatebet, etc. and hit up a sit 'n go.

Same here. It's the best poker game, that's for sure. It might even be the best card game, but as I'm not really into card games, I can't tell for sure.

I'll let you know how well i do next Sunday. (I'm through to the regional finals of Redtooth Poker for East London)
Should be about 500 people, no entry fee, but a grand prize money pool split between winners. not sure where the prizes start.

It's fun all right, but I've been hit with some really bad beats. Was short stacked at my table about 2 hours in on like a 40 man tourney and about 15 people left. Went all in A-J diamonds and she called with J-6 spades and the flop comes out 10-J-6. Coulda punched a hole in the wall I was so mad.

I play with friends and on pokerstars. Typical player, win some and lose some.. except I usually beat my friends and family.

I'll get back to you on this. Sounds like a good way for me to get back a few of my tax dollars ;)

I didn't intend on using real money for it.
It was a suggestion that seemed to fall on deaf ears... so thanks. ;)

My worst (online) hand was when I was sitting on a pair of K's, the flop goes bad, and I loose out to someone holding a pair of A's.

Well I'm going to guess you didn't take first place. How did you do?

I play for money in casinos. I won't play for money online because there are too many scammers. I had three of buddies in Germany who would get online at the same time that they were all on the phone together. Thus, sitting at the table and knowing THREE of the hands...well, you can imagine the huge advantage that is. And that's not uncommon in the online poker world, either.

Best I ever did in a live tourny was 1st in a 67 player tourny. I also got 2nd in a 44 person tourny a couple of weeks ago. I never seem to do that good online. I prefer live play.

I just got back from spending what I won last week. Last week placed 6 out of 65. Best before that was 2nd out of 30. Tonight I caught every hand that could beat me every time I made a move.

I forgot about this thread

Last Sunday I went to the East London Regionals

150 players, i came 69th

The hand that i lost on was played really badly by me. Blinds were up to 800 and 1600 and i had about 7K

I was dealt a k9 off suit and was out of position. Called the blind, everyone else folded so it was between me and the big blind. (big blind had about 8-9K)
flop came down 3K5 rainbow
I bet 1600
big blind calls

turn - 4

I check
Big Blind pushes all in.

I'm sitting there thinking maybe he's now hit 2 pair, I was fairly convinced that he had deffo beaten my king. So I call his all in after 3 or 4 minutes of shall i, shan't i ?

He turns over 26. Game over.

Knocked out by a 2 fucking 6. Sick as a parrot.

Thanks for the update.

Should have bet more on that flop. Probably 3 x the big blind or something. My bet size choices are pretty random, so I never know what's correct.

Playing the free stuff leads to all sorts of wild and wierd things, like people chasing with 2 6 off suit and hitting their bingo card.

Wow. Pushing all in on the turn with a straight... He's either really good or really bad but I guess it worked out for him anyway.

The guy who beat me said that if I had of raised preflop or bet over 3K on the flop - he would of folded, but because I was under the gun, there was no way I was going to stick 3200 or more in when it was roughly half my stack. my bad play came after I saw the king and didn't force him out of the hand with a decent sized bet

Yeah after the king, was what I meant when I said, "on that flop." The bet probably should have been $4000 or something.

I might have been thinking. "I don't want to risk my stack here on just top pair. I can wait for something better." I can't just check it, I'll bet kind of small.

I have also done that, followed by not being able to let it go after the donkey shoves. "What's he got? I'm top pair here. if I'm good I can cruise with a really nice stack, I might have to make this call. These people are terrible, is he trying to push me off with a pair of 5s?"

I was not suggesting I would never have done exactly what you did. It's just easier to see what you should have done from here after the fact.
