It seems odd to me that I keep running into people that score an excessive amount of points in very few games........are they that good.....or is something odd about that?

Conquer Club players are initially given a score of 1000. At the end of each game, the winner takes points away from each loser. The points to be awarded is calculated as (loser's score / winner's score) * 20, up to a maximum of 100 points from each opponent.
Let's consider an extreme example. For his first game a new recruit (with 1000 points) joins in a 6-player standard game with 5 colonels (who each have 2000 point scores). In the unlikely but not impossible event that the new recruit wins the game, each colonel will lose 2000 / 1000 * 20 = 40 points giving our happy new recruit a 40 * 5 = 200 point boost to his score. So our hero would be at 1200 points after just one victory in a game.
but each successive game would yield fewer and fewer points. I guess if you play at major level from the start as a new recruit then you'd probably pick up points quickly, then go back to a normal pace after a couple games

if you start playing majors and win move on to generals

Do they?!
Cheating bastards. What is the point of that anyway? If you assume that in those "training games" they lost most of the time, their score would be so low that -as tahitiwahini said- any game they win from then on would yield massive points . If they truly had “learned” how to win they would quickly reach 1000 again.
I really don’t understand how some people are fixated with this manipulation of the scores/rank.
That's very true, flashleg. When I started, I sucked and my score was down to around 800. I finally started to figure things out a bit and got a ton of points so now I'm up to almost 1300 after about 2 weeks of doing better. I agree that is cheating....and pathetic.
That sort of thing probably happens more often than people realize. If someone starts playing, and loses their first few games and their rating drops to like 800, they would definitely consider just starting over with a new account since that essentially raises their rating 200 points without have to do anything.
To each his own but it will definitely take away from the satisfaction of obtaining a higher rank. I thought I was damn good when I joined conquer club, then I got schooled early on, but I was always learning, and theres nothing like steadily climbing up through the ranks. Still learning, and hopefully still climbing.
