Why can't this jovial little thread be in flame wars? It's precisely the sort of thing that makes the place interesting. I thought the reason that Xtratabasco was banned from making 'mexicans are teh sux' threads was because it was clearly trolling+spamming.

But there's no need to ban every single topic that touches on a controversial issue and has a high probability of degenerating into flames. Is there?

If an OP wants to have a discussion about an issue in an arena where crude-language, ad hominem, and ranting are permitted, then why stop them? Granted racial epithets or Nazi propaganda shouldn't be permitted anywhere on this site. But I fail to see why there's suddenly a crackdown on people who want to debate controversial topics in Flame Wars.
