I would also like to say that I really like the map idea.
The concept sounds different and I like the previous suggestion that you get larger bonuses by trying to expand out though its actually negative until you own the whole thing.

The only difference is at what score you attain a certain rank. Captain used to be 2000+, Lieutenant 1800+, etc.

I find a lot of people do that in games. Honestly, the missing a turn bonus multiplier shouldn't even exist seeing that if you can't make it to your turn (which takes about five minutes at most) you don't really deserve to get anything back.
