Re: Decline in map standards.

The last page and half is totally OFF TOPIC. Stop now, if you want to discuss about welcome new mapmakers, start a topic for that.

Back on the original discussion, koontz asked what do you think about this:

It has been said, and many agree with it, that the standards within the map making ...

besides, xml can't affect dice. that would only result in more dice ranting.

It would??

Its something I've wanted for ages I was thining along the line of having certain border crossing more difficult than others. Kind of like something inbetween a barrier and a one way border. Having areas in ...

Re: Mega USA Map [3 Dec 2011] V15 pg 15

It is beautiful Isaiah. I am really digging the rainbow of color going on.

I would like to see you try one thing. See what it looks like with a White background instead of that darker blue. It may work if you just went back to the blue background, but throw a white color overlay on it to lighten ...

Re: Mega USA Map [17 Nov 2011] V14 pg 12

I think that nat and Co. are wrong. They are trying every way they can to change the style from "The Pack".

"They" aren't really trying to change the style from "the pack" per se, but to make the map less cluttered and easier to read. That would be accomplished by simplifying the style.

I mean ...

Re: Mega USA Map [17 Nov 2011] V14 pg 12

Very nice work Isaiah,
I think that you are doing a pretty good job at keeping with the style of the "Map Packs". I see that a couple of nitwits just can not understand your stated goals in this respect. Oh well (there always seems to be a nat in the ointment). lol.

BK, I really do not understand ...

Re: Mega USA Map [5 Nov 2011] V11 pg 10

Just put a maximum of 15 troops gained through holding territs without bonuses and keep it to 3 troops for 1 region, 4 for 12, 5 for 15 etc. 45 regions gives you 15 troops and 48 or 108 does not give you more. That way 1v1 will be all about holding bonuses not taking down random territs and total ...

Re: Mega USA Map [20 Sept 2011] V6 pg 5

desaturate the colors of the land and lighten and brighten the roads. This should help out in your quest to declutter. Also sense your circles and stars are over the top of the roads mostly, it would be appropriate to drop shadow them as well.

Re: Mega USA Map [20 Sept 2011] V6 pg 5

Yeah... the current map pack doesn't look too good either. But since those aren't likely to be changed, and this one still can be... I see no reason to restrict the style of this map to some arbitrary specifications. It does NOT need to follow the style exactly to a T, but it DOES need to carry the ...

Re: Mega USA Map [13 Sept 2011] V5 pg 4

Just a thought. But maybe tone down the colors of the states to a rather muted palette of 4-5 colors. That might help it look less messy and also make the highway colors pop out more.
Yes, darker muted colors. this and the drop shadow on the roads. This will lift them up from the map, thus helping ...

Sorry, but I do not have the time right now to read the entirety of this thread. But, I thought that I would offer up my first impressions that only a set of "new eyes" can provide.

Yeah, there is certainly a whole lot going on, (not a bad thing necessarily). I think that if you experiment with a ...

Re: Drafts / Design Briefs [Discussion]

If it is decided that the process has to be changed, then I propose that you change it in such a way that simplifies, NOT complicates. By this I mean loosen up things. Make it less rigid. The artistic process is NOT something that you can structure the same for every map, and every mapmaker. So in ...

Re: Drafts / Design Briefs [Discussion]

The quality of the maps here at CC has been significantly reduced. I believe that this started with the departure of mibi, to start his own Risk site. He managed to take with him CC's most talented and experienced mapmakers. Also on or about that time a few of the more talented mapmakers retired ...

Re: World Cities Contest: Pick your favourite London Map!

#1 is not terrible, but the black and white does not really mesh with the rest of the map.
#2 is my pick. Yeah it may seem a bit green, but I think this will look great once you add all of those colorful numbers on it.
#3 is just a bit too Gaudy for my taste.
