Re: New York 1695 v15
I just noticed that Three King Street D has two doors onto the same street. This was probably my mistake and I apologize. Perhaps that extra door should be shifted an inch north to allow TKS C access to King Street? Or the boundary between Beaver St. and King St. shifted northeast a touch?

Re: New York 1695 v15
The rule "all streets revert to neutral two after every player's turn" needs to be reworded. At the very least, the apostrophe needs to be moved to the other side of the 's' since this way it refers to a single player. Better yet, find wording that's much less easy to misinterpret. Maybe: "Streets ...

Re: New York 1695 v15
Is it not true that as more features are added to XML and as the taste in maps evolves more toward the complex, that making an "acceptable" map that is eminently playable under ALL possible combinations of options becomes extremely difficult if not nearly impossible? I've offered any number of ...

Re: New York 1695 v15
Golden number. Excellent. Quite a bold set of changes to reduce the fort's importance. Just be alert to it becoming irrelevant. Eight may be too many. Testing will hopefully show one way or the other rather quickly.

Re: New York 1695 v15
Eyeballing a bunch of non-fog games it seems that something that's been nagging at me from the beginning has become manifest. The antique base map showed those two little forts north of Wall Street and they look pretty cool. (Other maps show six!) But clearly, based on location and shape, they are ...

Re: New York 1695 v15
I just checked and 300 games have been completed. Just via eyeballing, it seems the average game length is about 10 turns, half longer, half shorter. One game went 61 turns but that was a real oddity. Few went more than 20. Many were 7 or less.

Re: New York 1695 v15
Gotcha. Maps tab. I see. Here's a try. But the thing is, Ian, I'm not a 'player' and won't have as good a feel for what might appeal to players. So edit away and if any of the Beta testers want to make suggestions, fine by me.

I'm a bit unsure. Ian: would you like me to write a short blurb describing the game? How many words?
On a side note to Beta testers: it seems a lot of you really love fog, but when you play that way no one can follow the game to see if the map is working well or not. Of course the game should be ...

Re: Classic Conquest [Version 3.01]
Shannon. I downloaded in Photoshop and simply inverted colors on the entire map. Give it a try, if only for kicks. You'd still have some issues with colors but maybe they'd be easier to fix this way. I think the inverted image is just as easy to read/use but is more visually striking.

Re: London Underground [Concept]
Yeah. I understand. Split the difference. Make it look just enough unlike a possibly-protected map to make that a non-issue but clear enough to be playable. Maybe less than 120 terts? That many would place it 240th out of 255 in tert count. The most popular games are smaller; often MUCH smaller ...

Re: London Underground [Concept]
I would hope not. If you start from scratch, alter dimensions, use different colors, don't include any elements that could be trademarked, it's hard to believe a map of public facilities (taxpayer financed in part?) could be copyrighted. If subways, why not highways or city streets? Half the CC maps ...

You're right. Separate bonuses by color. Normal methods of bonus computing won't work. Make some guesses, plurple and I'll alter the map. Make any and all suggestions you think might be useful.

Re: New York 1695 v15
It's up to you guys to figure this out. I've not played enough games with all the varied rules and combinations to have a feel for what would work or not. But I'll offer another suggestion that would change things completely: forget about the streets being dangerous (re-write the blurb). Make three ...

I don't have any idea if XML could support this or if CCer's would accept the randomness involved, but here's an idea:
Create a map of a continent, real or imagined (probably imagined) that includes a river, a volcano, coasts, a swath of terts designated "tornado alley", and a section of between ...

Re: New York 1695 v15
A suggestion was made that perhaps the streets should be neutral one instead of two. Not a bad idea but consider an alternative: instead of reverting to neutral, a player can own a street but his forces get degraded (reduced) by one or two (or more?) at the end of his turn. If reduced to zero THEN ...

I just noticed that when I look at my JPG of v15 (a few posts above) in Photoshop, it has more contrast and saturation than as I see it above here in my Chrome browser. Of course every CCer will see it differently depending on their screens and software but I find it odd that PS and browser on same ...
