Re: Choosing a better place to sniff users.

it doesn't violate anything if you use a proxy

I realise that while a proxy is used, the sniffing technically fails, although most proxies are probably in the same country as the user

However, my last comment was targetted more at site policy rather than personal experience.

It's not just ...

Re: Choosing a better place to sniff users.

The site is in breach of the UK data protection act.

I do not know foreign laws. However, I am certain that most developed nations have similar regulations on the collecting, collating and distribution of information about individual members of the public.

Re: Choosing a better place to sniff users.

What has my age to do with privacy infrigement?

If conquerclub.com was sniffing the location of minors then the situation would be clearly criminal.

As I have already stipulated that the proxy is an integral part of my internet services and cannot be removed, I tentatively suggest you have a low ...

Re: Choosing a better place to sniff users.

Well, I'm not nationalist in disposition

I am happy that you have found humour in this, and indeed, I added my current avatar following a minor confusion over my geographic and cultural knowledge.

None the less, I cannot be the only person to experience misrepresentations.

Furthermore, if user ...

Re: Choosing a better place to sniff users.

Its not about feeling strongly about a flag. I feel strongly about honesty.

The fact is that I selected one thing in the profile and the site is replacing it with a false statement. It is as though the site is calling me a liar!

I cannot avoid the proxy server as its an integral part of my ...

Re: Choosing a better place to sniff users.

The problem is that the site is misrepresenting user identity. In other words, its a lie and that a legal problem.

In at least one case, a user asked me about Norway, and how should I know - I have never been there!

In contrast to your claim, the site does not show my location based on my IP ...

Choosing a better place to sniff users.

Conquerclub.com requests that users enter their location/nationality. I specified the UK because I am British and I live in England. Sometimes a little British flag appears in my profile

However, sometimes a little Swedish or Norwegian flag appears instead! Today, it was Norwegian.

Why does ...

Re: Legitimate Player Protection

Rather than target user accounts, why not target the games? For example, when an game is determined to be infected, why not make the game an unrated one?

Does Cutesy*Club report these people to the user's ISP on the basis that they are interfering with the functionality of networked services and ...

Re: Opera Mini / mobile conquests

Regarding maintenance. You may serve a different CSS file for each browser, thereby removing the need to deal with awkward quirks. To do this, simply replace static CSS file with a dynamic include that checks the user agent string. Dynamic pages are quicker than server redirects.

Re: Opera Mini / mobile conquests

I'm not sure what the post about iPhone is trying to say *shrug*

Well, BlackBerry is Java-based so it's going to be difficult to get FireFox and there is no chance of getting Safari. Besides, I'm using Safari on a public computer and it is showing HTML errors too (in previewing maps).

Re: Opera Mini / mobile conquests

Hi chipv,

Thank you for your reply.

I would like to be optimistic because XHTML standards have changed very slowly in recent years. Perhaps management would consider trying mobile compatibility as a beta trial? :)

Re: Opera Mini / mobile conquests

Well, a BlackBerry is a computer so I have bought a computer. Furthermore, there is presumably a reason why I haven't bought something bigger? Big computers are like anchors that encourage extensive growth around the waistline. I'm scared of experiencing that particular side effect

As of yet ...

Re: Opera Mini / mobile conquests

I think you have not taken my statement seriously.

This is a website to be viewed a web browser. These phones have web browsers that display websites in the same way that a desktop computer does. Therefore, desktop users would experience no cosmetic change. In other words, desktop users are a non ...

Re: Opera Mini / mobile conquests

I am sorry for not providing specific technical solutions. Unfortunately, I do not own a PC and will be unable to assist due to time constraints.

Furthermore, I'm using my phone to write this and it doesn't have built-in script editors (I wish it did)

However, I am certain that a solution can be ...

Opera Mini / mobile conquests

This post outlines some current problems with using conquerclub.com on mobile devices and suggests delivery improvements.

The device used is a BlackBerry 8707 on a 3G connection with Opera Mini software. However, similar issues would confront users of comparable devices and configuration.

Treaties

Hi all - I have yet to complete a single game

However, I wonder if anyone has attempted to negotiate (publicly visible) peace treaties during a game? It is a strategy frequently seen in the Civilization video game.

For example, one might agree to three rounds of non-aggression with a selected ...
