I agree that this format is flawed. At minimum, score should reset once the final round begins.

A "random" browse thru a few of your games ... provided almost a 100% likelihood you were abusive in chat and a sore loser. What does that tell you about randomness?

I have also wondered about the iterations of different types of auto tournaments. Also wonder about the addition of different maps to auto tournaments, e.g. Eurasia, World 2.1, First Nations Americas, Balkan Peninsula... some larger maps without special gameplay.
