Deliberately Missing Turns Change
Hey folks,
This strategy - not take a turn for 24 hours for one reason or another, e.g. not trading in despite having 5 cards (looking at YOU, Marv, in 24244) - really bugs me, and I'm not one of these people who only have 4 slots, so I can't imagine what it must be like for them. Probably sends quite a few of them running from the site in frustration.
I have a new idea for what to do about getting/not getting armies for the turn you miss - how about if you've logged in to the site during the time it's been your turn, but haven't taken your turn in the game in question, you don't get the back armies? This would seem to me to catch people who are deliberately delaying the game for 24 hours for strategic reasons, except for those who are so extreme as to sit out all their games deliberately at the same time. If I see that a player has not taken his turn for 24 hours but has been posting left and right during that time, that's pretty incensing, because I KNOW they've been around.
Not sure if this would be programmable, but I think it could speed up some games with little or no injustice or deleterious effects. Yeah, if you log in for a while and the site goes down and monkeys eat your windshield wipers so you're partway through your turns when everything goes upside down for 24 hours, you're unfairly hit. But I think the number of people in this situation is statistically insignificant.
What's doos all the peoples thinking?

what you should do is if some one posts then the concequence should be implemented so only if they are active not in games and still miss thier turns because some people might have enough time to play a few of their games but not the rest then they shouldent be punished but those that post and not play should be punished

What if a "Pass Turn" Button was added, so that players that were going to miss their turn for one reason or another wouldn't have to delay a game. I know some people miss turns on purpose as a strategy, and this would allow them to do that w/o delaying the game. Obviously, rules that applied to missing multiple consecutive turns would also apply to passing multiple consecutive turns.

I think that if you miss your turn you should miss your armies, if you miss your turn and come back, you should only get the armies you are entitled to for that round, if you have less than 12 territories and no bonuses, you should only get 3 armies, not double or anything, that will discourage people from missing turns.

As I've said before, I think it is fair to get the armies if you weren't able to play. But we should do something to discourage intentional missage because it slows the game.
I agree 100% with sully's post. We'll start off with a skip turn button in the next update and look into rocksolid's idea afterwards if the problem of intentional missage persists.

what if a person does it 'proven' (within his 2 (two) missed turns he played several other games at different times (some games even had the time to play 2 turns within a couple of hours)) with the sole purpose to keep opponents from knowing what to do or where to place troops ????
even worse, what if this person has already been caught cheating ????
the skip turn button would only make it worse .... you have the time to log in, go into the game, but no time to play ....... i doubt very few persons will be polite enough to do so .......
and the one who wants to cheat will not do so because he wants you to think he never was there ........
maybe a fair system would be that if you show up on second turn you get half your points of your missed turn, but if you show up on 3rd turn you get nothing (the rules are known before you start playing, and i don't know anybody who doesn't have either a friend or a laptop, or an internet cafe or any other solution to play your turn in a game you voluntary started)

It's the same amount of army's they would've gotten! It makes no difference!

I quite like the idea...I was playing ina game the other week where the opposing team were logging in, posting in forums/taking other turns, and then just as the previous round ended, beginning the following round receiving double armies/bonuses. It was really annoying, and because there is no way of getting round it, my team just had to try wait till they began the following turn to try salvage our bonuses before their double armies/bonuses ensured they break through the defences...Im not sure that these types of people would use a "skip-turn" button as it was more tactical then just missing their turns by accident/because of lack of time...

I have to say I whole heartedly agree with this statement. In team freestyle I've had opponents not play their turn until time expired then 30 seconds later log in and get double bonuses before I get a chance to play.
I think in freestyle, if you miss your turn your team shouldn't be able to start the next round. That way they can't purposely wait until just after time expires to play again. It goes against freestyle play rules as they technically are then able to finish the round and start the next one. They are just doing it all in one turn.
I can't believe a "skip turn button" is pending!! This perverts the rules of the game. Why are we going to make it easier for people to skip their turns and get double armies? No one should get double armies for missing their turn. You should only get the armies you would normally receive. This would stop people from skipping turns as a strategy and slowing the game down.
And yes, the original idea is a bad one. I sometimes log in but can't take all the turns because of time contraints. Bad idea.

I bet there will be a penalty for skipping turns if you use the button. I bet you won't get the armies, but I guess we'll see.
I don't like rocksolids idea because I have been known to log into the site in the morning before class or work, check the games to see if I have 4 or 15 hours and wait until after work to take those turns that I have longer for. I do not think it is fair that I should be required to take ALL of my turns just for logging into the site. I am in complete agreement with wicked on this one.
