Yes, this was addressed in a movie I went to go see recently called EXPELLED. It was very interesting at the end when Richard Dawkins got flustered with Ben Stein's interview. Atheists and evolutionists hold to their worldview just as religiously as anybody else. And boy do they get upset when it's questioned!
Now I absolutely must see that film! If only to see that self-important blowhard Dawkins blow his lid.

Expelled fails, on the account of an atheist not being let in.

I think Neoteny posted it, it should be around page 2 or 3 I guess.

At the Radio press conference of Expelled,in Jan this year, all but 4 of the questions were posed by Pail Lauer who happens to be a member of the film's public relations firm. The other questions came from representatives of lobby groups Focus on the family and Ethics and Liberty commision of the Southern baptist convention, Christian programme Listen up TV and finaly the Colorado Catholic Herald.

The best we can do is obtain the status of agnostic. So I wonder if atheists even exist! It's funny when you think about it. I've never run across a rude person who claims to be an atheist but that's probably because I usually hang out in General Discussion.
that sounds kinda hypocritical to me. you have to have unlimited knowledge to know 100% that there isnt a god but you dont need 100% evidence that god exists to know that there is one?

Well, i don't consider myself an athiest, as that term refers to someone who opposes religion. I consider myself a non-believer. This simply means that I thrive on hard facts and don't have the mental capacity for faith or belief.
One's belief does not necessarily define their level of intelligence.

Athiests don't oppose religion.

question: if i evolved from monkeys, how come i don't have any wings?
answer: because God didn't answer that prayer quite the way we'd all hoped.

Re: CC Atheists - what do you think of them?
In reference to the original question, it depends on the atheist. Some are quite fun to have conversations with, others post absolute and usually intentionally inflammatory nonsense.
But I don't hold atheism against atheists, so long as they're not douchebags about it and they have real reasons for being atheists other than that it's fun. I've learned a lot from the smart atheists, and as such I hold a great deal of respect for them. I'm a theist dating an atheist, and I can do this because I have enough respect for the girl's reasons for atheism that I can in turn respect her for holding them. (making progress on that count, though, the cosmological argument is very compelling to those who have never heard a theist talk about science before
)
I have very similar feelings about theists. If you're a Christian and a jerk about it, then how Christian are you, really? If you're a Christian and your reason for "faith" is nothing more than that you grew up with it, or your pastor said so, then I would question the foundation of your belief. I get FAR more frustrated by theists who go on and on about "faith" and a "relationship with God" without ever examining, or worse, denying the need to examine the evidence that said God left us of His very existence, than I do of atheists who have reached a conclusion based on an apparent lack of evidence. At least I can reason with the latter group.
My two cents.

What an admirable display of cunning Ambrose. The best of both worlds; not only are you assured a ticket to paradise but you don't have to compromise with some religious girlfriend who won't put out till she gets a ring. Bravo!

Hmm, can't vote "cynical".
Not sure I believe it exists.

Frigidus wrote:Athiests don't oppose religion.Well, some do, but that's not the definition.
There are actually (if I understand them correctly) some religions that might be technicaly considered "athiest" because they don't actually support the existance of a god or gods.
(That doesn't count the old Christian joke ... technically the original Roman definition of athiest was the non belief of the Roman gods. So Christians, who denied the Roman pantheon were called "athiests" by the state.)

Yeah, well she conceded to the supernatural earlier today, so I suppose not anymore. I guess we're somewhere in a transitory stage ;P
