Re: ∴∵∴Glacier∴∵∴ (name subject to change)
snowbound? I don't like the idea of just taking a name from another game.
blizzard is ok but not great. like wca said, it implies snow flying around everywhere.
glacier is just wrong. at least it appears to be. I don't think there are any glaciers on the map itself.
snowstorm might work but it has the same problem as blizzard.
tundra feels apt. it's similar to oasis in that it describes a geographical area where the map is based. though for clarity's sake, calling it arctic tundra makes more sense.
I'd be more inclined to support blizzard or snowstorm if somehow it was included in the gameplay and/or the graphics of the map. Maybe piles of snow from the storm are used as impassable borders? And a shovel allows you to go through those areas! Ok maybe not that last bit.

i think if you had a little like... white hazy coating over the whole map that made it look like it was snowing would make blizzard an apt title...

I think I'm most leaning towards glacier still. Tundra sounds too grey and boring and iceberg wouldn't work for this kind of map.
Glacier: A dirty, slow-moving slab of ice. But tundra is boring...
Kidding of course. But glacier doesn't seem to really make sense to me. Who would live on top of a glacier? I've never heard of any peoples who did or do that. Tundra is actually a climate were some people would stay, however deadly it might be to live there.
Re: ∴∵∴Glacier∴∵∴ (name subject to change)
Tundra gets my vote. I like the sound of it.

I don't remember my geography well enough. do tundras have snow on them? If they do, then that would be a good name.
basically as far as i know, a tundra is an area the is mostly snow, but has basically some splotches of life (plants) and maybe grass and such.
Also, only thing I have to say, is that it needs more mountainous terrain. I think you should have a large mountain in the top left or right corner, and have some other mountains (smaller) spread out around the map, mostly as impassables.

Lots of new posts to comment on.
All my responses in RED font.
First off, my apologies if I missed anything that I should have commented on. You guys posted a lot!
Regarding the map name, after reading everything you guys have posted, I think Glacier is the wrong name for this map.
Right now I am leaning most towards Snowbound or Tundra. Snowbound because it has a sort of mysterious feel to it, like Hulmey said. And it makes sense for the map, cause the village is surrounded by snow that you can't cross without getting hurt.
Tundra because it seems to be the most correct name, at least geographically, to describe whats on the map so far.
Snowstorm and Blizzard would probably be too difficult to work out. The image is already so light, any attempt to put fog or snow over the map would leave me with a white square. And you can't easily play risk on a white square. Still considering those two, I'm just not sure how I would work the name into the graphics.
Just did a bit of math, if we keep posting at this rate, we will be going at an unheard of 115 posts per day (give or take a few). Thats ridiculous

I don't think that would be much of a problem. Blizzard is the company that made Warcraft, and Tundra is a type of Toyota car. Lots of names are being used by all kinds of companies. As long as there isn't anything to make people confuse this map with halo, snowbound might be ok.

Not a big fan of names made of two words..... maybe.

Maybe. At least the background on the map key could have snow on it (I'm setting it up same as Oasis, btw. with the landscape behind the text). The problem with putting anything white over the image is that the image is already very white. any more white and you wouldn't be able to see whats going on, you'd just have a square of white to look at.

ok. I'm not sure about adding grass, but it helps to know that.

There will be a mountain or two. The terrain to the left (which you can't see on this preview) will probably be more rough and mountainous than what you see now. I haven't put much thought into how to make the mountains, so I have no idea how they would work out.

i'm not sure it will keep up at that rate, especially since basically all everyone is doing is contemplating what you'll do... and at some point people will get bored of debating the merits of tundra over blizzard or whatever

I'll probably throw up some kind of poll soon. Whenever we get it worked down to a reasonable list of names.
Right now it is:
Glacier
Tundra
Snowbound
Snowstorm
Blizzard
Snowblind
I think Glacier has been voted off the list, though.
I'm not sure about Snowstorm or Blizzard, so I'll wait for a few more comments before making a poll, unless everyone agrees and we don't need a vote.
My vote is for Tundra or Snowbound, btw. I'm not sure which one yet.

I'm not saying using snowbound is a bad idea for that reason, wca. I just think it's lazy and unimaginative.
You don't like the double names but 'Winter [something]' could work too. Or just combine them for one name.
yep. there's lots of cold words that can be used for the map. taking one from something else just feels like we didn't even think about it.

Or less catchy names like: Frozen North, Ice Trek, Frost Fair.

Re: ∴∵∴Glacier∴∵∴ (name subject to change)
Impressive image and another creative idea, love the story going with the map, as to gameplay, mines sound like a good idea, perhaps food stores, igloos(igloo is hokie, but I just mean snow shelter) or shelters as other bonuses. fire would look good in some of those places. As far as the name I'm a fan of Snowbound, and am rather against tundra, I see caribou and permafrosted grass lands when I think tundra, and snowbound is kinda cool. I'll keep an eye out here, good luck!

Snowblind might work.
*adds to the list of possible names*
And another vote for Snowbound.
A double name could work, as long as its something good. I'd like it if the name could stay short and simple. But if its a good name, I'm fine with it, even if its a bit longer.

it's quite a terrible story actually lol, but i dunno, just thought of the name,
still think blizzard is the one to go with though...

Re: ∴∵∴Glacier∴∵∴ (name subject to change)
I'd rather see and know more about the map before deciding on a name too. You haven't really said too much about the gameplay or about what exactly the bonuses will be.
Right now all we really know is the story summary you gave and that bonuses will be smaller the closer they are to the center.
Instead of thinking of a cool name, let one come out from what the gameplay and image are.

my votes for snowbound...makes the map feel very desolate...as if your stranded in a camp in the middle of nowhere kinda like your map...

Re: ∴∵∴Glacier∴∵∴ (name subject to change)
looks like Snowbound has the most support so far.
Its the name I'm leaning towards, also.
If you don't want it to be Snowbound, could you guys support one of the other names, or provide an alternate name?
Cause Snowbound is the favorite so far, I think.

Re: ∴∵∴Glacier∴∵∴ (name subject to change)
Someone mentioned adding igloos to the map.
How about an eskimo name?
For example 'Kaneq', which means frost in a certain eskimo language.
You could even expand on that idea and have some sort of eskimo theme, or something.

Maybe some firecamps along the way or tunnel paths protecting from the frostbite?
If you use Highbriges/Tunnel paths. It should probbably a much longer way to reach the bonuses but it will give you adventages?
Maybe it leads you to a secret Canyon/Shaft.
