I don't spend a lot of time in this forum so forgive me if this has been done before.....BUT....I so often see people wishing "Good Luck" in a game....so I want to know
In over 2000 games and 2.5 years here, I have never once wished my opponents good luck....I offer "Here's to a good game!", but definately not luck....lol.
I have come up with the best answers I could............
"Gypsy told my fortune...she said that nothin showed...."
I usually say something like "good gaming", or "may the dice gods smile down on me" I do slip everyonce and awhile and wish people good luck, but I usually wish myself better luck .
Generally, I feel that bad luck, on my part or my opponents, makes the game less fun. I'd rather not have a streak of bad luck ruin any party's strategy. Of course, good strategy should take into account the possibility of failure in those areas we have no control over. But in general, If I win, I'd rather it not be completely due to bad luck on my opponents part. So if I say "GL," it means just that.
I usually wish GL, since I think I will get bad luck if I don't. And in a team game, I wish gl to all, but especially my team mate. I have actually had people get mad at me for that one before.
nothing wrong with a little bit of man on dog love.
When I say "gl" it is targeted to all players equally, including myself, since I am here to have fun, even if that means winning or losing. In many cases, when luck is equal for most of the game, it has been enjoyable enough that you do not care whether you win or lose. So I would guess it is the first option in the poll, but not exactly, did not vote in it.
You know, I don't really believe in luck. I just say "good luck" as a goodwill gesture to each of my opponents. I guess what I'm really saying is "have fun." I'll be saying that from now on.

that's my philosophy too. I usually go with, "have fun" or, "enjoy".

GL..means have fun, enjoy yourself, hope to have a good battle, cant wait to play
I cant honestly say that Id like to see the other players get great rolls, sets on three, and wipe me out. Its just a way to appear to be a good sport while secretly wishing to smash them on every attack. I truly hope they have fun as I do this, but the killing them is the important part.
I'm Spanking Monkey now....err...I mean I'm a Spanking Monkey now...that shoots milk Too much. I know.

exactly my thoughts. Good luck for the opponent but better for me and I want to win at my opponent's expense
Wacicha-san......I expect nothing less from you my friend I, however, am a selfish, evil, white man (not to mention having been married for 20 years and needing an outlet for my frustration)
Lova ya man
"Gypsy told my fortune...she said that nothin showed...."
I once played a 5 man speed game where it had come down to two players, me and another chap. The other chap through a combination of good dice and good play had managed to leave me with about 3 territories and six men. I was very dead and also about to lose a rank because of the loss. With a heavy heart I deployed, pointlessly attacked something and forted, ready for my death. I usually have a good book by the PC for just such times as these and after a few minutes I looked up to see he still hadn't played his move. I began to get interested! I quickly realised he might have a connection problem and saw that my only hope was that it would last for 15 minutes. I deployed, no attack, no fort in about 0.5 seconds for three rounds and watched his clock time on his turns. As all good stories have a happy ending I, of course, won.
Now I always wish everyone I play with 'good luck' because I am a polite person (even on-line...) but here was an example of the hypocricy behind that simple 'gl'. It is hard to describe just how happy I was for that chap to have such terrible luck. To be literally 5 seconds away from a win and have your internet cut out on you...

For a brief period of time I was honest and said "I hope you all lose". This got some laughs but basically it encouraged the others to choose to attack me if all other factors were equal. I will admit that I did enjoy the games, but I lost a few hundred points during this time period. Being a freemie it took a long time to get those points back. Now I just wish "luck to all", hoping I get the majority of the good luck.
