Re: Time in Speed Games

I cant say YES or NO.Part of your idea is good(the decreasing time part). The other part is bad.
In a freestyle game the clock at 5 minutes is to long. I do not think it should increase at all.I already think its bad that the clock increases by 3 mins everytime you eliminate someone. To increase it even by 1 second per move would be bad.

Suggestion: 2-Minute Turn Game Option

Post by iambligh »

I've heard that this has been suggested before; I just want to clarify: I'm not suggesting that speed games be set to 2-minute turns, but that we have another, "turbo," option.

This will speed up freestyles, most of which end up being down-time, waiting for the clock to expire, and should cut down on the possible 40-minutes of down-time between turns in sequential games.

Turbo games would be listed in the join-a-game category along with speed games, but would be labeled differently.

I believe that this is something that many players would enjoy.

This would save a lot of wasted time.

I am for it.

But you decrease the total time from 5 minutes down to 1 minute. So there would be no more waiting, and time only gets added onto the clock when people are actually playing...That's what I'm suggesting at least.

I think maybe when you select to make a speed game there is a 5 minute option, a 10 minute option and a 15 minute option. That way they are still all speed games but the time can vary.

Maybe I should add a poll -- does anyone know how?

Ya, just edit the first post you made in the thread, then follow the instructions below the text box.

As I have been told before, polls don't help an idea along, post and input.

The main reason I don't play speed games is because people always play multiple speed games at once, which causes them to screw the game up, or miss turns. People wouldn't play multiple 2-minute games, which is probably why I'd play them if they were approved.

I am sure some people think speed games aren't useful

I don't know if "useful" was the right word. I think the poll should have been a yes/no poll.

What about unlimited fortifications? Wouldn't players then have unlimited time as long as they move troops back and forth between two territories?

I don't know why so many reasonable ideas get rejected even if they are not that great why don't they get exepted any way it doesn't hurt to have one more option

only if they can fort within a second, but i get your point

most people can bombard the same territ 3 times in 2 second, with a large enough stack people could make rounds last a lot longer

Timminz wrote:Variations on this idea have been suggested numerous times already, and shot down each time.

personally, I was a fan of one suggestion that involved having a button to add time to a turn, when needed. People could use it when they need more time, but if you're not there to click the button, your turn ends in 5 minutes still.

this has one weakness in most case you wudnt see but. The weakness is this, some speeders plays more than 1 speed games, maybe 5 or more. Then you wud have to wait such player's all other game turns end then go back to the game you and that player in. I dont know if it wud be confronted frequently but a weakness it seemeed to me.
The most wise solution maybe this one : Let every player 3 times to use +5 minute option in a game...Thinking of when such situations get necesary then i see it only gets necesary when you are wiping out someone, wiping around the whole map etc.. Something not everyturn happens but maximally 3 times or less you may need additional time bonus. So it wudnt hurt the total time needed to finish the game...
To be last, have clicable maps...

Have you ever played multiple games on table??? It's equivalent to real life, just like chess, but how many players play multis in real life??? You can count them on both of your hand not more, and I'm just guessing you ain't one of them (otherwise you should be playing chess right now ;) ) so why do you think you can do it in CC?

Seconds could be added to the clock after certains actons.
Some of you may be thinking, "10 min is great but i dont want to sit for that long when somone deadbeats". Neither do I! Why not start the time when its the players turn, and then add time to the clock (say 15-30 sec) whenever they complete an action? Whenever you deploy troops, whenever you attack a territory, whenever you fortify, whenever you cash in cards. All these actions would add seconds back to the, "shot clock" so to speak, up to the original time of the timer. The timer still encourages fast play, but is flexible enough to allow for some extra thinking if the need arises.

Think about it, you could have 2 minute games that move along quickly even with deadbeats (you only wait for two min instead of 5). And as long as you are taking your turn you never really are in danger of running out of time. And for the more relaxed speed game, I think we're all happy to wait, if someone is actually thinking and actively playing the game.

Anyone with me?!

Totally agree with on this one... I even changed my vote in the pole after I read it =D> (for sequential of course, no need in it for freesyle)

i know you are very far in thinking of the point i will make for sure. Anyways what i am afraid of is this 1 minute 2 minutes speed games wud create more farmers but this time farming wud turn from newbie farming into corporal and less or even sergeant farming. Believe me there will be a group of players which will perfect themselves in some spesific maps in high speeds....
