i agree.. sometimes it is the people i am in games with or planning to get in games with or clan members, that i am trying to avoid. it is nice to pop on, check some pm's, make sure you're not banned, check your games, browse the forum, and jump offline before anyone spots you to bother you. if this were implemented, i would just abolish my friend list all together...-0
p.s.-besides, the people that i generally want to talk to, know how to get ahold of me, either online or in real life...

Re: Hidden online status should still allow friends to see you
As the friend list, and hide online status are both default features of phpBB, you should request a mod at phpBB. I like having it as an option (with default set no), but having it mandatory would make many people not use the friends list.

Re: Player 'Online/Offline' On Game Board *To-Do*
bump.
Its been three years.
Paperplunger already posted the basic code you'd need, I think.
And the friends list has the code to tell if someone is online or not.
Is it really that difficult to have the game page simply read from the online status of each player and put up a mark showing that the player is online?

You could probably just rip the code from the phpbb and put it somewhere else.

I don't know exactly how this code would need to be altered for use, but this is the code that's used by phpbb.

Well.. phpbb3 does have a function that lists the online users.. but that function lists ALL online users

Re: Player 'Online/Offline' On Game Board *To-Do*
I would like to see an online marker on the Game Finder screen. When joining a 2 or 3 player game I always check the profile of the players that have already joined to see if they are online so the game will most likely get going right away.

Re: Player 'Online/Offline' On Game Board *To-Do*
what about people who's on-line status is hidden????
game menu ---> my games
What about putting something to signal when a person is online next to their name when you looking at games list or when your in a game.
example: its joes turn and Im after him. Im ready to log off for the night but If I see him online I may stay alittle longer to take my turn because the guy after me is from other side of the world and If I wait till I get home from work the next day I know it will be about the time the guy after me should be sleepin.
Yeah I have cable internet and could click on his name but Im to lazy to go through the list of the 20 games im in. But It could suck for the dial up users, that is If there still is any.

Online Indicator
Would it be possible to add an online indicator next to peoples user names when you do a game search with the game finder, so if your wanting to play in rt you don't have to check the person profile first and then go back only to find the game started already, it is really annoying to join a game to find no one online.

Re: Online Indicator
Actually I wasn't talking about searching for the topic. I was talking about the form that was there when you created the original post. It's there for you to fill out and be specific about so we know what you want and can give you feedback, and it may become a website feature. If you find yourself annoying that's really not my problem, if you don't use the form your suggestion most likely won't be taken seriously. You will probably also get several questions asking what you mean, and why it is useful. Good luck.

Psst, trolling is against the forum rules. Stop being an asshole and go away.
As for the suggestion, simply click on their profiles (in a new tab) to find out. This only works when they don't have it disabled, but if they do, it probably wouldn't show up on this idea anyways.
Also, if you try using Live Chat on the left side of your screen, you can use their Callouts area to set up RT (real time) games.

I suggested this sometime ago and I still feel like it's a worthwhile suggestion. My understanding is that wouldn't take much effort from Lack either.
Here's what people had to say about it.

Just because someone is online does not mean they can play real time. The only real way is to ask or go to call-outs.
You can also simply chaulk up the $25 for a year and get to play all the speed games (i.e. gauranteed real time games) you wish.
Else -- them's the breaks. I start a lot of 1 vs 1 games, do try to play more or less "real time" when I am on, but I also put right in my profile that I cannot gaurantee real time games. I have kids, get involved in forum discussions, etc.
When I want a real time game, I play speed games and while I understand not everyone wants to pay the money, I resent getting down-rated and such because someone wants a speed game without paying for the priviliage or even just going to callouts/pming to see if I can play real time.

In-Game Player Online/Offline Detecter
Concise description:
Specifics:
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
- An in-game add-on that shows whether or not other players are online or offline.
Specifics:
- Creating an in-game spec that lets everyone in the game show whether or not team-mates and opponents are on line.
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
- It would help in team games especially for strategizing amoungst team-mates. You wouldn't have to click on everyone's wall to see if they are online to co-ordinate moves.

Re: In-Game Player Online/Offline Detecter
You can already check this on the bottom of the forum, and as far as I know, the reason it hasn't been implemented is to keep players who just want real time games from harassing those opponents who don't want to play the game in real time.
