Re: Argentina >> UPDATED
LATEST UPDATE
* Moved map to the left, reducing empty space
* Fixed "San Juan"
* Added army circles.. Kind of!
* Moved MiniMap and Flag
* Changed West and East to Del Oeste & Del Este
* Signified "T" for Tucuman in the MiniMap
[bigimg]http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg77/firestarter8_photos/ConquerClub%20Maps/CCA21309.png[/bigimg]
Thanks for the feedback guys...
Ive removed the bonuses I originally had, and would like some views as to how to go with numbers for the 5 continents.
Also, as in my first post, I had an idea of adding in some kind of sign into 3 of the Argie cities down the spine of Chile, to signify links from the south to the north...
Idea's??

Re: Argentina >> UPDATED 21/03/09
Looks good,
Few things I'd suggest:
-put the mini-map more into the bottom right corner, and move the compass somewhere else. It looks a bit odd the way it is now.
-don't worry about making the "T" for Tucuman red. I think if you even used "T.", and then explain it somewere, people will know it's short for something. The red is too overpowering.
-I see what you're trying to do with the other S.American countries' flags, but I don't know if it's working. Especially the Brazillian flag -- it's the first thing I see when I look at the map, and of course the map has nothing to do with Brazil.
Cheers,
LC

Re: Argentina >> UPDATED 21/03/09
The map looks a lot tidier now it's cropped down. I wonder if you could afford to expand Eastward by about 10-20px though?
I was just looking at the Argentine Tourist Board website, and I noticed that each region has it's own shield/coat of arms - could you incorporate them somehow? They might seem more suitable than the Brazil flag?
The tourist board region guides seemed to include some of the 'territories' within two regions... I wonder if you could do something similar here?? It would help differentiate the gameplay a little bit more?
If Beunos Aires is in the same bonus region as the Southern islands, then that needs to be made a lot clearer. While looking at it, I've noticed that all the sea paths are two-way, so you could lose the arrow-heads on them without losing any clarity - I think they look a little clumsy.
There are some bonus calculator spreadsheets in the MapMaking Tools thread - you might find that a good place to start with your region bonuses.

Nice map!
I like the "flag works" you did!
Some suggestions and critics for you:
Remove the border and the dark sea on the leged. Move it in the botton right side of map.
something like this quick example i did. (see the spoiler)
Tone up tierro del fuego e islas malvinas similar i did. Could be more clear the number of regions in this continent
Write "T=Tucuman" only on 1 line, it's more clear
The red star make confusion
Remember that you probably have to explain graphically or writing all impassable borders somewhere in the map (in your case the river and the mountains)
Islas Malvinas can attack Chubut del Este but not viceversa? Not so immediately clear
About bonuses try to use this: Bonuses spreadsheet
then fix all them together with some good adjustments
I suggest you these bonuses:
pale blue zone +3
violet zone +3/+4
red +2/+3
yellow +4
blue +5
Good work!

the only graphical things I don't like are the mini-map (I don't like nobo's version of it either but his placement is better) and the river (it doesn't fit in with everything else).
To gameplay, I think you'd be better served trying to make this a classic sized map. there seems to be space for it. You can fit the Tucuman label on the map itself btw. quite easily. there's lots of ways to do it but I'd suggest putting the circle where the T is currently and putting the label where the circle is now and maybe move the santiago del estero label to the right if you don't like the crowding there.
but yes, 26 territories doesnt make for a fun game. Buenos Aires is huge and could be its own continent. I haven't done research to see if these are true provinces or something but from a gameplay standpoint it'd help the map I think.

islas malvinas is the falkland islands, which is not only a british territory at the moment, but will remain so for the foreseeable future. since there is no realistic prospect of the islands coming under argentine administration, it's better to exclude them from the map.
i see that u've based ur map on provinces. select a major city from each province and name each territory after that city, since city names are normally much better-known than provincial names. some provinces, such as buenos aires, have more than one major city, so there's an opportunity to grow the map by creating more territories.
i'd like to see buenos aires, which is so dominant culturally and financially, to the extent of containing 30% of the population of argentina, be split into perhaps 10 or 11 cities and put into an inset, like battle for iraq's baghdad or mexico's anillo central. u have the room because the playable area is tall and thin: just increase the width of the map to make more space.

small maps of countries, unless the graphics are amazing (iceland springs to mind) tend not to be among the most popular, for example portugal. this is because maps below classic size usually have limited strategic possibilities.

I like this a lot!
Some questions and such.
Why does the inset map have army Circles on it?
Yoou should make it clearer that the islands at the bottom are in the same bonus reagion as Buenos Aires.
Have you thought about what the bonuses will be worth?
I like ian's suggestion, but i think 10 is a little exessive. How about 8? That is about 30% the amount of territories in the rest of the map.

I've never been a big fan of insets---I'd rather see a few more playable territories on the mainland area.

Everything about the graphics are stunning that is, except for the inset and the arrows, maybe change that to fit with the style of the rest of the map

What is wrong with insets? I find them to be good at making the game more interesting.

I've been doing some housekeeping and merged the old thread in Ideas with the Drafting room thread

PB: 2661 | He's blue... If he were green he would die | No mod would be stupid enough to do that
Re: Argentina >> UPDATED 21/03/09
[Moved]
It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the CAs will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system, after an update has been made.
I do hope this one isn't a dead duck, as I think it is one of the better looking drafts that are knocking around

Apologies for the stall on this map guys.
Ive been quite busy with work for the last few months and as a result, this project had to take a back seat.
However, I have some spare time again, and one of the first things Ill be doing is finishing this map.
Expect an update in the coming week folks!!
