HATE the new in-game stats

Post by dludwig »

ConquerClub is at least partially about math, and being observant, and being able to figure out all this stuff in your head, on the fly. Please don't dumb the game down with this stupid "leader board", or whatever it's called. At the very least, make it an option when you start a game so that those of us who were enjoying things just the way they were don't have to deal with this nonsense.

well don't post it here, there's a forum for this, and it's not this one. well, maybe not an option for the game but perhaps in the control panel.

Sorry... are you saying it belongs in suggestions and bug reports? It seemed an appropriate "general discussion" even with that as another possibility. I didn't see anything else more specific, but admittedly I haven't felt compelled to look at the forums much before.

I'd also contend it does make sense for the game and not according to the individual. How can you have a fair game where some people have all that at their fingertips and others don't?

You might not be aware of this, dludwig, but many of your opponents have been using a community-made plugin called BOB to automate the counting and print stats on their screen. I agree, it's not a fair game if some people have all that at their fingertips and others don't. That's why providing these stats for everyone is so important.

And it is very hard, if not impossible, to stop people from writing plugins.

Welcome to the forum, but you are a few years too late. This option HAS been available for years, and many players use it. Further, some of the better players on the site use it, and the reason is, because going through the log and counting territories is busy work, and not part of the fun of the game, or any real part of the strategy. The strategy is what you do with the information, who you attack, when you attack, where you fort, and who you fort in team games.

This update was actually overdue, and now the playing field is leveled. More importantly, you only have to use the info when you want it, and the only reason you wouldnt want someone else to have the info, is to take advantage of the fact that they didnt have it.

Most importantly though, this actually makes the multiplayer games better for the single fact that now, newer players can instantly see the actual stats of the game, and can play a more informed and possibly better game.

In any case, its here to stay, and it only provides information that is already available. All it does is save time for any real player. So it only affects those who like to play players that dont actually play a good game, because they didnt check those stats before moving, by whatever means necessary.

One of the greatest complaints in a game is almost always that one person attacked another person too heavily. That they misread the board and didn't realize how powerful the other player was. Certainly that will still happen, and in some cases, will happen even because the data was misinterpreted, but in general, we now have more informed, and better players to compete against.

This can only be seen as a good thing to anyone serious about competition and the game. This information is irrelevant in any game with good players, because no good player would truly act without knowing it in the first place, so again, it just saves time.

Yea-what AAFitz said--cool less typing for me

Thanks for the responses - I wasn't aware of the plug-in and understand the need. I'd still like to see an option to play without it, though. I like that ConquerClub closely mimics the (not to be named) board game, and to me this was always something you had to do on your own. I mostly play with people I know so I'm content with the honor system being at play, and don't play 10 games at once so the "ease" of having this done for me is somewhat irrelevant. Maybe the stats can be on by default but toggled off?

Typical AAFitz response. Excuse me while I throw up with another "I know everything and will explain in detail" comment. barf.

You may be excused. And I figure since I do know everything, at least explaining it in detail is the least I can do. :D
