Re: How to get to captain in 200 games.
I made it in about 50 games the first time, and that included the first 10 or so when I really had little idea what I was doing. I could do it in 30-40 games now if I just played standard. Maybe less, but assuming a 40-50% win rate at 4-8 man games it would take about that many games.
Most people could do it quickly if they just stuck at one or two maps and styles in their early games. So many end up playing 600 games on a variety of maps and styles over their first two months and wonder why they are still a freakin' corporal. Playing 50 games at a time as a new player and expecting to do well?
This...is...stupid.

Hmm... hear what you are saying. But... depends on what you are looking for I guess. I remember writing an article in my second month here about hitting Cappy by playing a certain type of 1v1 game. But I wanted to do more so I dropped rank quickly and learned tons.
Depends on the goal. Which I know you know. But just wanted to say. Still waiting for my doubles invite from you...

Yep, there is certainly more than one way to skin a cat, but as this thread is specifically about reaching a rank quickly (rather than say becoming the complete player) I think it is fair to point out a method that is much, much quicker...in the right hands of course!!
Right on with the dubs. Will have a ponder over style, map etc etc

I guess one of the things that intimidated me early and/or I didn't get right away since I was unaware of the point system was that 8 player games can rock your rank-up style really, really quickly. You get good at variations of 8-person games? You can sky-rocket!
And with regard to dubs? I defer to your expertise my friend.

You'll notice with the 8 man europa we are playing that some have really wasted their armies, often when there was no realistic objective in mind. This point was actually made above as well. Conserve those armies!! Therefore if you are smart enough to avoid those likely to to be smashing up stuff in the early rounds and can 'get settled' it is effectively a 4 or 5 man game. Not an 8.
Then it comes down to your ability to win a 5 man game. If you can both survive the early game AND know how to swoop in the mid. game then, yeah, you can win 50% of 5-8 man flat/no cards...a win rate that is basically impossible with escalating (30% seems to be great) but on the other hand they can play all high ranks games, while you really can't with flat/no cards. Therefore you can raise faster with flat standard, but probably have to top out at about 2,800 to 3,000 as you find yourself winning 60 points for an 8 man and losing 40. That is not fun.

That makes tons of sense. And it is a lesson I have yet to learn. I see an enemy? Everything in me wants to kill that enemy. I'm learning (slowly) to control that urge but with my Irish personality it is tough. "Scorn disgrace malediction by churches and bells" is my natural reply in a game.
Which is dumb. But fun!

Yes. In this game it helps to be as cool as a cucumber.
With my gherkinish personality, this comes quite naturally to me.

Hey, I'll have done this if I get 80 more points in 50 games...

This doesn't work with only 4 games at a time...
It would take really long. Seems like a sound strategy though.

Yes, it does work*. You may not get to captain in 200 games, as you have already played 196.
Try to find the settings / maps you are good at, play large multiplayer games and learn which strategy leads to victory.
* 1800 points can even be reached in less than 60 games.

This makes no sense. It would only take a long amount of time; the number of games it takes does not change whether you're freemium or premium.

This has worked well enough for me. I hit 1875 pts before taking a dip this past week once i hit 2000 ill find some other game type to play. It will be a change after a few hundred games of classic freestyle, flat, and sunny.
