Hello i would like to make a map. As you can see its a guitar i think this could make a good map and a fun map. So here is a image of a basic map idea the parts of the guitar that are missing and are white are regions. Here is my first one.

Hm, I'm not convinced that a guitar would make a for an interesting map. :) Generally, I'm not sure a map of an object would be a good route to go.

I think there are probably hundreds of other better ideas out there. Have you looked through the Recycling Bin? Or through other map ideas? I feel like you could get some better inspiration there.

I would suggest using just the neck. That would be interesting. Just frets 1-12. Then you could gain extra reinforcments for controlling chords (1 for power chords, 2 for all of a single fret etc). That might work better then what just a guitar.

The problem with a guitar is that it is seperated oddly. You have potential territories within one another. This could be interesting for gameplay but also difficult to balance.

i support this idea. You could do guitar rock songs also - like a jack black school of rock thing.. sort of like this:

This is a good idea. There's a great deal of mathmatical combos in music, which would actually work well for interesting bonuses.

If you want to go for a classical guitar, I'd say concentrate on the frets.

How many of these non-geographic ideas actually make it far, or out of the foundry?

I think a map of the fretboard could offer some interesting gameplay ideas. Here's mine (please do not be offended by my incredibly bad Paint skills).

Behold, my gameplay idea for a Guitar Fretboard (just gameplay!)

Territories: 72
Bonuses: 25 (6 string, 12 fret, 7 note; see below)

You can attack either along the string (horizontal) or across the fret (vertical).
There are three types of bonuses, holding an entire string/row, an entire fret/column, or all of a note/colour.
Grey boxes are part of fret and string bonuses, but not any note bonuses.

The idea is that each colour is where each note (A, B, C etc) is on the guitar - each note occurs six times on the first 12 frets.

Blue = A
Purple = B
Red = C
Orange = D
Yellow = E
Green = F
Cyan = G

I figured it would be better not to include notes like F# and Bb etc, so that every territory isn't part of 3 bonuses, thus making some territories more important than others.

I ran the details through a bonus calculator and made a few adjustments. The calculator told me that the bonus for holding all of a colour would be +6. Another option for the colours/notes is to have like this, for example:

Any 3 of the same note: +2
Any 4 of the same note: +3
Any 5 of the same note: +4
Any 6 of the same note: +6

The good thing about the colours is that some bonuses lead more easily to another colour than others, for example it is relatively easy to invade Reds from Purples, but not Oranges from Reds.

Anyway, this is why I stay out of the Foundry :P

This actually might work better, if you reduce it to 2 or 3 levels I think rather than 4. Some thing like, "Any 3 of a chord: +2; Any 5 of a chord: +4; All notes of a chord: +6" Based upon my limited knowledge of what omitting notes would do, you could call the sub-bonuses something cool, like this:
"Triad (any 3 notes): +2; Power Chord (any 5 notes): +4, Full Chord (all notes): +6"

This might need to change, the map would be a little too open I think... although it might work, at least one map has done it before (Conquer 6). Maybe, a play can attack along a string, but can only "hop" frets through notes of the same color?
