bin Laden and top aides protected in Iran?..
Osama bin Laden's hiding place was pinned down for the first time Monday, June 7, by the Kuwaiti Al-Siyassa Monday, June 7, as the mountainous town of Savzevar in the northeastern Iranian province of Khorasan, 220 km west of Mashhad. He is said to have lived there under Tehran's protection for the last five years, along with Ayman Al-Zawahiri and five other high-ranking al Qaeda leaders.
DEBKAfile's intelligence sources disclosed Monday night that Turkish prime minister Recep Erdogan and his intelligence chiefs are well aware that Bin Laden and Zawahiri are hiding in Iran. The leak to the Kuwait paper was intended to show the Obama administration that the Turkish leader's ties with Iran had grown intense enough for him to be fully in the picture of Iran's secret sanctuary for the authors of the 9/11 attacks on the United States.
Savzevar, a small town of about a quarter of a million inhabitants, is connected by road to Tehran and Mashhad and has a small airport. A center for producing grapes and raisins, its location is remote and difficult to access because it is enclosed by lofty mountains and a salt desert 50,000 square kilometers in area.
On May 13, American intelligence sources reported in detail that senior al Qaeda operatives living in Iran had been allowed to leave the country through Syria to orchestrate terrorist attacks on American targets. Among them was Saif al-Adel, who is believed to have been assigned with planning an attack on the world soccer games opening in South Africa on June 12.
Those sources noted that Saif al-Adel had received his instructions directly from Osama bin Laden and Ayman Zawahiri but did not reveal knowledge of their presence in Iran.
DEBKAfile's counter-terror sources disclose that the purpose of airing their precise whereabouts at this time, aside from implicating the Turkish leader, was first, to warn al Qaeda's leaders that their hideout was blown and they had better move on - which would make them easier to catch; and, second, to nudge US president Barak Obama into a decision to go after them.
A rare opportunity may now be building up to capture the world's most wanted terrorist, DEBKAfile's counter-terror sources report. Last December, US Defense Secretary Robert Gates acknowledged the United States has not had any good intelligence on bin Laden's whereabouts in years. Until recently, the elusive master-terrorist was generally thought to have gone to ground in the wilder parts of Pakistan-Afghanistan border region.

Iran is protecting Al-Qaida? Yer right, about as likely as Israel is protecting them. Oh and Turkey, the NATO, OECD nation, and EU candidate country, who has been the target of many extremist attacks is now befriending Iran and fully knows about these hiding places?

My God you're stupid..
It's common knowledge that Iran is protecting the bulk of bin Laden's family. The idea that bin Laden himself may be provided those same protections really shouldn't come as a shock to anyone. They have common enemies and similar (though admittedly not identical) radical theological beliefs. Throw in that that Western Intelligence doesn't seem to have any fucking clue where the man is, and Iran actually seems like a pretty damn likely candidate..
.. Keep in mind that this is coming from a source which accurately predicted in 2000 that Al Qaeda was plotting to fly air airplanes into the World Trade Center buildings. I'm sure it sounded like a CrAZY conspiracy at the time, but they were proven correct in less than a year.
Also, if you haven't been paying attention to the growing economic and military ties between Turkey and Iran, you haven't been paying attention.

Re: bin Laden and top aides protected in Iran?..
the tora bora mountains in afghanistan are really immense..
Personally I believe 100% that he is in Pakistan atm in a basement of some rich dudes house.
In my opinion, and from fact.. we had radio intercepts of him in the mountains. Our Delta and Alabama special forces guard hammered the f*ck out of those mountains... We had it blanketed.. He could only go south. Since then (I believe and i may be wrong) we had the roads and air blanketed for any possible path to iran.
Now all that being said. the guy is alive and there are many in iran that would give him sanctuary.. so I dunno. My bet and the US govs bet is that he is in a paki basement atm.

Re: bin Laden and top aides protected in Iran?..
I have a lot more respect for an informed opinion like that than "There's no reason to think Iran would want to ally with Al Qaeda and Turkey and Iran don't get along.. Durrrrr...."
There are plenty of people who would give him sanctuary in Pakistan, and he may or may not have been there. With that said, I think the guy moves around, and I do think that there's reason to consider that he may be in Iran.
It's shocking how little consideration is given to this possibility and how quickly people dismiss it. Assuming that he could forge a deal with the Iranian leadership, and I think they have enough in common that such an alliance is likely, it would be the perfect spot for him..
.. and his whole frikken family that we already know is there.

Man, from my work experience and what Ive seen, i will say this with a pretty high accuracy percentage- Bin Laden does NOT move around. What the us has done to persia in terms of intel is incredible. He does not move around in my opinion. That is the EXACT reason you dont see a video a week from him. He knows he is a hero to the right wing islamic people, he would make a video a week, BUT we have his ass and all of persia on lock down.
He would not go near his family for a second btw... we have ppl on the ground all over those motherfuckers.

Re: bin Laden and top aides protected in Iran?..
btw gabon, as you seem to be interested, Ill give you this and pm me for more... but If you are american or british or even Aussie.. you need to be damn proud of what bush-clinton-clinton-bush-bush did... The us and allies know when someone has a really bad crap in the middle east and persia. It goes beyond what the general public even imagines. Its tight man.
Bin laden is in a hole somewhere with about 3 people that know where he is at. Its the only way he can live. Maybe in Iran.. That is a possibility, there is nothing stopping a paki from putting his ass in a trunk and driving him to Iran.. well there are a few things but its possible.

Who gives a damn about his family. He has like 40 siblings, and most of them work for the Bin Laden construction business which is fcking huge. They've already disowned him for years now. Also, Iran is hated as much as the USA by groups like Al-Qaida and the Taliban, why do you think Iran pretty much gave the USA the blueprint in how to conquer Afghanistan after the US militray faltered in the first few weeks of the invasion? Their theological beliefs are complete opposite, Shia vs Sunni.
Btw, flying planed into buildings, it was quite a well known plot by everyone in the intelligence community in 2000 and 2001, its just that the Bush administration sat on their arses and did nothing about it. Oh, and growing economic ties (if thats real) between Iran and Turkey is completely different to "Turkish prime minister Recep Erdogan and his intelligence chiefs are well aware that Bin Laden and Zawahiri are hiding in Iran. The leak to the Kuwait paper was intended to show the Obama administration that the Turkish leader's ties with Iran had grown intense enough for him to be fully in the picture of Iran's secret sanctuary for the authors of the 9/11 attacks"

I fully agree. Each time he moves, he would need a network. A travel agent, a destination,.. supplies. If even one person knows where he is, that's too many people. By now someone would have given him up on purpose (for a reward) or on accident (bye mom I'm going to the mountains fro a week or two). There are just too many people there (from bounty hunters to war lords) who have and do capture people and turn them over to the US because of the rewards they hope to get. Bin Laden would be worth a king's ransom.
We've captured insurgence that have been shown in Bin Laden videos too. We still don't have him.
IF Osama is in Iran, I find it dubious to think that anyone in a position of authority in their government could know about it. Again, if the right person gets a wind of it, there would be nothing to stop them from walking into the American Embassy in Jordan, or where ever, and claiming the reward. I can't see them calling a newspaper instead. Though stranger things have happened.
& That's not to mention all the badass spying we've done there. We don't have a man in every room so-to-speak, but the US does payout for good intelligence.
And about his family, they don't like him and as far as I know, most are watched bye rookie agents just-in-case. He hasn't had any close ties to his family in too long a time.

A travel agent? Supplies? I doubt they would ever get a "travel agent," and it is not like they need toilet paper or toothpaste.
That is not to mention that Osama Bin Laden is still a military strategist. What is one of the first rules of military strategy?
If people are searching for you, never stay in one place too long.
I do it because I can
I can because I want to
I want to because you said I couldn't

He does move around a little possibly. There was some intelligence that he was just east of Kandahar privince in a small town which completely threw the intelligence assumption that he was in the NWFP in Pakistan, with the possible explanation after that he had probably moved due to the drone strikes in Pakistan, but were still extremely limited in Southern Afghanistan, especially in areas with little western influence or intelligence gathering.
I agree that he would not move around a lot, I assume he has a small team of loyal people by him night and day and he only goes to the extreme strongholds or to the mountains (I read somewhere that he has a personal assassin who's only job is to kill him should the Americans get to close).
