[Abandoned] - Singapore map

Post by haoala »

Mod Note:Abandoned - If resurrected, this one must be checked again.

Singapore map
36 Territories based on constituencies
6 Continents based on districts
Here's the next update
27/11/08 update

small

big
[bigimg]http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s112/haoala/large-3.png[/bigimg]

Special features:
The continents are generally harder to get than most maps around.
The legend is a homage to the Singapore city skyline.
There are little cartoon landmarks around Singapore.
Hougang is enclave.

What's new:
*longer rivers and removed connections so that continents have less borders:
-Marine Parade(green) and Jalan Besar(red)
-East Coast(green) and Aljunied(yellow)
-Aljunied and Ang Mo Kio(red)
-ang mo kio(red) and bukit timah(orange)
-The above no longer border each other
-Removed connections from Sentosa to Pasir Panjang and Jalan Besar
*Legend & bonus redo to reflect the new borders:
-Southern Islands bonus increased to 4
-I thought about decreasing the orange bonus to 1 for three territories, having to defend one. however, many territories can attack that 1 territory, so i decided to keep the bonus at 2.

Issues:
*cartoons?
*I wonder...why do I need army circles? I've seen many new maps without army circles and I wonder whether I need them...they are rather troublesome anyway. Share your thoughts on removing the army circles.
*also, i planning on giving the main island a texture. it looks pretty plain if you ask me
*anything else

The XML is here
Here are the XML coordinates test results with version 14:

Small

Large (88 )

I don't see any uncentralised numbers, but do inform me if you see any.

Please give feedback. It would be much appreciated.

wow, the fact you managed the shadows with paint is impressive, but yes you need a better drawing program.

i think he used an image that already had shadow and he just added colours. but i may be wrong. i've seen stuff made in paint that looked better than photoshop (i'm not kidding)

you can download a 30day free trial from adobe. 30 days are more than enough to make a beautifull map.

first download photoshop then install it after that start reading the help and search the internet for tutorials. in a few days you'll learn how to make a nice map.
at first it might seem a bit hard but it's really easy

The best advice: IF you don't have the tools, or access to tool, to create a map, and you also lack the skill to do it...wait until you've got these things in your grasp, before continuing work on a map.

I agree with Andy. Nothing worse than someone posting a very rough draft of a map they want to make and then say I'm going to need help with the graphics and/or XML. If you can't make a map from start to finish up to the current standards then simply put your suggestion in the "free to a good home" thread.

*get rid of some lines that go nowhere (like the ones on top of the map that point up)
*make the legend more readable
*some of the territories are hard to see (like the little island on north east continent)
*the 2 red islands from red do they form a single territory? do they connect to anything?
*the bonuses are strage to say the least. for example Nort East has +2 but it has 5 territories and 4 of them are borders. or North West. same +2 bonus 4 territories and 4 borders.
*add impassable borders. at the moment none of the continents is easy to hold, as they all have many borders.

for the moment leave them like this, maybe when you put names things will be more clear.

focus on the gameplay part. the bonuses and the impassable borrders are a must.
