Make chat IRC accessable!
This is not a bug. It is by design and I believe the implementation of the following suggestions can only improve the function of the Conquer Club chat.
Currently, the "Live Chat" links you to a .php page where a script is managing the chat. This is fine and dandy, however, the only way to access the chat is on the page itself or a window displaying the .php script. My suggestion is to make the chat an IRC. (For those who don't know, Wiki it) This would allow for the same access that currently exists through a java platform while those who chose to run 3rd party software like mIRC could access the chat away from the site. To me personally, this would be a great addition to the site as I am on IRC channels 24/7 and access all those channels via mIRC. It would allow me to spend much more time in chat and would offer the same to others weather the chose to use an IRC program or not.
Thank you for your consideration.

Re: Make chat IRC accessable!
A reasonable suggestion. Lots of other sites have similar implementations as well. An IRC based chat would give much more options for the users, however you would need to implement an IRC network with advanced features such as chanserv & nickserv which would help to make sure only you can use your nickname, and also allows you to make channels and register them, and make private channels where the network provides bots to enforce the security options for user-made channels.

Re: Make chat IRC accessable!
I would be willing to host the IRC network... I have plenty of experience doing so.
Re: Make chat IRC accessable!
I'm going to setup a pilot server to see if this idea catches on... I'll post with the details. If it does, I'll add a production server and hopefully lackattack can give me a DNS name (irc.conquerclub.com).
Re: Make chat IRC accessable!
Ok the server itself is up and running, join at:
irc.intendednetworks.com
ChanServ and NickServ are compiling.

IRC based chat
Hey!
So, after joining the premium party, I've decided to start complaining right away
A huge part of the community (as I see it) is the chat. While it is above decent for a web chat, I believe it's less than sufficient when comparing it to the IRC alternatives.
I suggest a chat based on IRC with the usual web client for the majority of user who won't feel the need for the extra options.
There is a great number of sites offering these web clients whether you prefer java
or html
By shifting to IRC, users will be able to log on through their favourite client.
Many will be able to idle or a more regular basis and read up, as you don't need the browser open to access the chat (given the use of mIRC, xChat or any other IRC client).
Mobile users will have easier access, as any cell running wap1.0 or newer (obviously including "real" internet clients) will have access through free java apps for cell phones.
Depending of the network chosen for the chat, different access setup can be used. As of now, you are bound to your site username, but a group of IRC nicks can be linked for same rights. Example, I often use Dalixam, Dalixam|zzz, Dalixam|away and of course the occasional Dalixam|WhoLivesToRule
Soo, what are you waiting for?

Re: IRC based chat
That's exactly what i said when i read that
On a serious note... if you are talking about Live Chat, on the side bar <------ Then you are sadly mistaken.
Live Chat is not the dominant force on CC. The Forums are much larger, and only roughly 100-200 of the 20 000 users on CC use Live Chat on a regular basis.

I like the idea, but I think it would require too much.

Re: CCIRC
I would LOVE to have a full IRC server based for Conquerclub players. I admittedly play Runescape, an MMORPG. There is a program called Swift Kit that runs the browser portion of the game but has add-ons (Much like the Tool & Enhancements made for CC already) as well as it's own IRC server (SwiftIRC.net). Clans from within the game all have private channels, there's support channels, scripting channels ect. It's a nice feature, and a whole community within itself.
Personally I'm big into MSL, and have my own Game Bot on that server. Ultimately I think an IRC server would be a great alternative to the php chat currently used.
