(Various) PM Spam: Chap's EA Tournament [noted]

Post by NightWolf »

I've been getting this outlandish problem with massive PM spams from this Chap's European Assassin Tournament, which I have made no post about, interest in, or even been asked about it before. I'm getting PMs about it constantly today, and not only that, but it is probably filling up hundreds of other PM boxes too. It looks like it's a list thing pulled from Highlanders 200th tourney list. I know he's not doing it, but this thing is getting out of hand. Can someone end this PM madness?

Comments: I keep getting these messages from someone different almost every time. Is this a bot, or some crazy plan that I don't understand?

All of this is extremely annoying and has to stop.
But... It was so artistically done.

People keep replying all. I replied to specific sender asking why there kept feeling the need to reply all, but apparently it got sent to everyone as well. I'm not sure why, I clicked reply to sender not the "and all receipients" button.

Very Annoying.

It's not a bot - it's a bunch of idiots replying to everyone instead of replying only to the originator.

The irony of those who are complaining about the spamming while simultaneously spamming with a PM themselves is...humorous.

(I'm talking about via PM, not about this C&A report.)

Interesting...does that mean my PM went out to everyone as well? If so, then there is something wrong with that button, because I made an explicit point of it. And my outbox shows that it only went to one individual. Darn...that removes the irony I was referring to. <sigh>

chap and one other guy following him thought it would be a good idea to use all 2500 of us in HA's 200th tournament to fill his tournament, and it's gone way overboard. I'm sorry I sent one of the PMs (before the huge influx of like 20 PMs), just asking everyone to stop, hoping it wouldn't escalate into a C&A matter, clearly it didn't work.

ES, LV, and many other mods are getting all the PMs, so it shouldn't be difficult to sort out

edit- if IcePack is right and the reply button (not reply all) sends it to everyone, I just sent a second one, total mistake, glitch in the system
edit2- IcePack is wrong (I think), my second one only went to the intended recipient

And still the spam continues.

Those who do this after Lindax and Dako sent their warnings definitely deserve vacations.

I specifically did not select reply to all button for that very purpose.
I was shocked when someone else quoted my msg. I assumed by avoiding the reply all button I wouldn't need to check the mailing list. It was just a quick messaging asking why they felt the need to add to the spam.
Clearly, something went wrong. But I know I didn't click the reply all button.

I sure hope it stops. We apparently need the system checked, and make the "reply to sender" button more appealing to click than the "reply to all recipients" button.

Personally, I'm just refusing to join any tournaments using that list on general principle. I kind of wish I had already joined one of the ones that was spammed about, so I could actively withdraw.

As for the others... really guys? I've gotten multiple PMs from a couple of people using that entire list... this is absurdly annoying.

Hmmm...so did ANYONE BESIDES DAKO see my PM in response to the spamming? If not, then the system is working as designed. Folks are just hitting the wrong button.

I find it all very funny. Watching numerous idiots spam each other with the message of telling people to stop spamming makes my day much more enjoyable.

I didn't see IcePack's or Woodruff's PM, so IcePack must have just been wrong, the guy got the quote some other way

I checked my sent box, it went to one user.
He just quoted me in a mass "to all" message after I sent it to him.
I knew I hit the correct button.

Oh, I think I know why IcePack THINKS he saw someone quoting him. They actually didn't.

IcePack, when anyone responds to a multi-user PM, you will see "the thread of PMs" that relate to that PM. So what happened was that the individual PM you sent to one user was still present in "that thread of PMs". So you didn't accidentally spam, and nobody else saw your message...but it put it into that thread for your own relevance in keeping track of things. If you haven't deleted it yet, go back and look, and you'll see what I mean. I was confused by the exact same thing at first.

I didn't receive your PMs......it works correctly. It's just a bunch of idiots who either think they're being funny or trying to make people think they're being helpful. It is neither helpful nor funny!
