Experminental Gamers [Social][Open] Update 4/28
Welcome. This is a usergroup for those players who like to experiment with different game types, often outside of the current CC options. These are games that players have come up with, but which currently do not have official options. This group will be a place for players to connect, develop game ideas, schedule games, and participate in unofficial leagues and tournaments within the group.
Please read on for more information, and indicate interest by replying in this thread. Also, the name is subject to change for good suggestions.
Now that we are active, here is a sample of some of our current activities:
We recently tried some games with a new rule on cashing in cards for spoils as soon as you had a set, no matter the value or board situation. Named "Panic!," it has some serious influence on flat, nuclear, and escalating spoils games, and also adds a new dimension to freestyle vs. sequential play order.
[spoiler=FAQ]What type of games are we talking about?
Two good examples are Adjacent Attacks and "Capital" games. Adjacent Attacks can be found in this thread, and has been the basis for two tournaments. Adjacent Attacks requires a "gentleman's agreement" to different rules that the game engine does not enforce. Capital games are a variant of the classic board game, in which each player nominates a territory as his or her capital. The game ends (or points are scored) when other players capture this "Capital" territory, requiring additional scoring agreements.
A very simple example is a game in which players agree that the only win condition will be holding a map objective.
What are the requirements for joining?
At this time, none. Simply indicate your interest. In the future, possible rules/requirements will be discussed, and I am reserving the right to remove players who repeatedly break the game rules.
Who should join?
Anyone who wants to try out new game types! The type of player tends to be someone who enjoys looking at things a little differently, experimenting with new strategies, and engaging in post game discussion. Players of any rank or skill level are welcome.
What about point or diplomacy rules and standards?
The purpose of this group is not to engage in any unfair or illegal practices. Therefore, secret diplomacy rules still apply. Additionally, players must be willing to sacrifice points for the sake of fair play. There are many times when it may be tempting to break a rule and sweep the board for the win, but these games are not for that purpose.
How will this group be managed?
Currently, we engage in self-management where anyone with the drive or initiative may setup any event or game as he or she sees fit. There is no expectation that any member organize any game or event, and there is no expectation to deny any member the right to organize any game or event.
How is this different from "The Diplomats?"
The Diplomats group is for those players who wish to engage in diplomacy during standard game rules. While our group does encourage use of in game chat, and while some game variants do focus on diplomacy, overall that is not the focus of special rules games.[/spoiler]
Activities
These are planned activities for the usergroup (open to changes):
1) Organize private games with agreed rules.
2) Discuss possible variations and set up games.
3) Discuss strategies of completed games.
4) Organize sitters for special rules games.
5) Promote special rules games through the suggestions forum.
6) Engage in thoughtful discussion and gameplay with like minded individuals.
7) Organize leagues and tournaments in various game types.
[spoiler=Further Reading]If you want to learn more about our activities, please check the following resources, or pm myself.
The Adjacent Attacks suggestion thread: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=51364 (This is our main suggestion thread. The first post contains a nice summary of the actual rules/gameplay. The following posts contain debate on the rules, test games, and our feedback.)
The First (Completed) Adjacent Attacks Tournament: viewtopic.php?f=91&t=103112 (Our first tournament, the last rounds are finishing up now!)
The Second (Ongoing) Adjacent Attacks Tournament: viewtopic.php?f=91&t=137505 (This thread details the current, ongoing AA tournament. Sign ups are over, but check out a game in progress if you want to follow along and see how they look)
The Objective Games Tournament (Abandoned): viewtopic.php?t=96367 (Although this tournament ended up in the Abandoned pile, the first two posts contain many rule variants.)[/spoiler]

Hehe, I'm not quite there yet! Added, and also glad to see you around the AA tournament.

Me too. We already do a great job organizing our own events, and hopefully we will be able to play more games and spread the word even further!
Re: Experminental Gamers [Social][Forming]
I'm interested in different kinds of gameplay so I'd like to join. I've got a new tournament up now for team assassin games if anyone's interested in trying that out. http://www.conquerclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=139769

I was out of town this weekend. I am going to share this link around some of our AA tournament games. I think once we get the 10 and get things running, interest will pick up. I already know that I will be hosting a league

I would like to join
Re: Experminental Gamers [Social][Forming]
I know the group is still forming. But is anyone interested in playing a Feudal Epic AA game?

Re: Experminental Gamers [Social][Forming]
Ok, we are at the required 10 members for e-ticket request to be official!
Two important things:
1) Any new name suggestions?
2) How about an inaugural celebratory game!
Game 8713800
The pass is the standard AA pass. Please ask if you need it.
