Vice & Virtue

Post by Riskismy »

Hey,

I thought it might be cool to have a map dealing with the 7 deadly sins and the 7 virtues. link

Map first, then thoughts:

The centrepiece of the map is the 7 cardinal virtues and vices, each occupying one half of the circle, placed opposite their counterparts (link above). The outer ring holds the governing demons/angels. Along the bottom and top we have the 7 layers of hell and heaven. I know that hell has 9 layers according to Dante, but he made it up just as much as I am. ;)
Obviously you'd have to go from the gates and through the layers until you reach the 7th Heaven or Hell.
In between these we have various acts or representations of virtue and vice, between 20 and 40 all in all. Each of these would be linked to a particular cardinal virtue/vice, and give some kind of bonus, of course. There might be some cross-overs just to make it interesting (e.g. both 'Charity' and 'Kindness' would have use for 'Feeding the Poor').
I'm thinking that each virtue/vice (in the centre of the circle), is a starting position - preferably with a max of 1 per player. Not sure if that is possible? Together with the ruler of virtue/vice, this would be a small bonus (+1 or 2), and none of these territories in the circle can attack each other.

Not so certain about the other paths of attack. I'd like to have some barrier between the upper and lower half (containing the representations of vices/virtues). Thought the gates might do that, but it doesn't really make sense that the gates of hell would allow attack on representations of virtues, whereas the other way around might make sense.
The representations might be somewhat grouped together in regards of paths of attack, but the rulers should 1-way attack all the representations on their half.

I'm thinking that holding a vice and virtue in opposition to each other should mean that the bonus from holding just one of them is cancelled. Heck, maybe it should be doubled to represent a true dominion over this aspect of human morals.

I'm thinking of a victory condition along the line of 'To win, hold all vices and all of Hell, or all virtues and all of Heaven.'

Well, just a very rough idea, as you can tell. In particular the paths of attack are vague to me. Wanted to get your feedback before setting things in stone. So please, any thoughts, ideas or comments you might have in mind, let me know!

this could be an intersting map,

my initial thoughts were, hmmm. is this another 8 thoughts???

although i realize it is different, especially in the game play aspect, maybe you can put more of a likeness to heaven and hell on it.
like maybe put a cross section of the earth, with the parts of hell and vices underground, while leaving the virtues and parts of heaven above ground and in the sky...

just spitballing here....

Yeah, the graphics will of course represent the two domains. Haven't given it much thought yet, but I'm thinking little devils with pitchforks and chubby little angels with trompets :-)

For now I'm looking for ideas on paths of attack, specifically:
- I don't want the vices and virtues and their rulers to attack each other directly (would mean eliminations in first or second round), so how do you get to control the other vice/virtues? Maybe you need to go through heaven or hell?

- Paths of attack outside the circle, between representations of virtue/vice. Thinking of adding demons and saints to that area as well. I want it to be fairly open, but not necessarily a 'free-for-all' area.

All ideas on any area welcome!
