I think MrBenn can eat it, I like this map! :P

I do have several suggestions, though:
  1. Those bathrooms are huge! Make them smaller!
  2. The closets just seem silly to me, I say cut them out or replace them.
  3. Why are there reception areas and lobbies on the 2nd and 3rd floors? Consider replacing them with cubicles.
  4. I'm not fond of the Service Area getting an additional +1 autodeploy, I say make it like the rest (+1 autodeploy) or at least switch it with the Equipment Room.
  5. Consider dividing up your offices like managerial offices and salesperson cubicles, kind of a thing. Maybe make the third floor the higher ups' HQ, while the second floor is for the regular cubicle people.
  6. There are a lot of halls... I suppose they're necessary but I'm not fond of them. Since they aren't really anything worth fighting for (thinking in terms of office importance, if that makes sense) consider making them a collective bonus like "+1 for any 2".
  7. Make both elevators killer neutrals, like the regular elevator could be 1 and the Service Elevator 2. The stairs could have an autodecay of 1, or they could even be standard territories with no bonus, I think both would work fine.
  8. Clearly indicate any impassables (I assume the thicker lines are, but maybe do a different color or something, so it's more clear).
  9. You have some space on your image that's being wasted. I think if you squish things a bit, you can add more to the map area.

The background has a sickly hue that kinda reminds me of vomit... it's probably because of that brown-green gradient. I'd recommend making it look more like cardboard stationary, you could look at some free texture sites for a cardboard texture.

There's some good free textures in deviantart or cgtextures... google "free cardboard texture".

all of this makes sense to me. i will start working on a new draft with much of the changes coming from these 9 points.

natty_dread wrote:The background has a sickly hue that kinda reminds me of vomit...

oddly enough, i figured the background looked cardboardy. i'll check out the sites you recomend. i'm sure they'll be very helpful. i was also considering making the background to be a manila file folder with "office wars" in the description tab. maybe i can find something such as that on the sites you listed.

the name "office wars" is goofy i think, i am in favor of changing it to something better, i just have not put alot of thought into it.

You can always call it TGIF... although anything associated with Friday has been essentially ruined by Rebecca Black.

And I like your file folder idea for the background.

It's alright, but why would a map of the office be on the front of a file folder...? Idk, just kind of thinking out loud. I'm saying it's a bad background, I think it fits the theme, I'm just wondering if there's a background that you could use that make sense for the map to be on. I think of the fire and tornado drill maps in my classroom. Maybe a clipboard?

it's a folder....
sitting on a desk.....
the desk is in an office....
possibly an office on this map.....

i dunno, i'm in love with it. it's going to have to be something pretty good to turn my interests. but i'll keep an open mind, i'll still think about some other options.

it's just, it's a folder, offices have folders. if you had a map, and needed to store it somewhere in an office, you would probably put it in a folder. or it does not have to be in the folder, the folder could just happen to be on the desk, and someone threw the memo down ( the map is the memo in this case ) on top of it. maybe i could put the map on a piece of loose paper, and have a few other things underneath it. you know, like an slightly unorganized stack of papers on top of the folder.

i think it will look a lot better once the map is on it. it's going to take me a while to get it up though, i'm starting over with all of your suggestions about the floor plan and autodeploys. plus i have finals coming up. but when school is out, i'm going to go into crunch time on this. i think it will look good.

i'm not saying that this can't be topped, it's just right now.....nothing i've thought of comes close.

i think that maybe you could have the map on a piece of paper that is in the folder which is open rather than on the folder itself

I think I could get behind this theme, if the map reminded me of Adult Swim's original game "Hrmageddon" in layout/aesthetics.

The forums do this at times. On the flip side, we (as mapmakers) sometimes need to do another update and get it posted before people will comment. Of course since everyone is talking about Osama being killed, well the foundry doesn't have too many commentators right now. Continue on!

I love the where you have taken this Williams. You asked for some feedback so here goes.

1) consider putting the elevators where the stairs are now, and squaring them up. Elevators are nearly always in the core of a building for structural reasons. This would be simple enough by squaring up the stairwell and dividing in two. simply name them El.1 and El.2. I feel it would lend realism to it.

2) you could then eliminate one of the old elevators and make that corner the VPs office on the 2nd floor and the CEOs office on the 3rd. lending a little variety to the floors. (that should please a couple of people)

3)My first thought upon reading the discussion around the color theme, and knowing your challenges, was to make the whole theme an architectural blueprint. very little color needed, maybe have the names in color as in Midkemdil.

4) I liked your original ideas on the room names in the basement. ie: Elec. rm, shipping/rec, mail, etc.

5) perhaps make the 4 corner offices on 2nd and 3rd floors a collective bonus. Everyone wants the corner office in the real world.

Anyway good luck in this my friend. I will be looking forward playing dubs on this with you.

jc, i tried and tried to do this. it just changes up everything i'm going for on this board. i want the stairs to be central, and not reset to neutral. plus i don't want it to be so easy to jump floors. so i'm going to abandon moving the elevators in the middle.
you said;

jcrymal wrote:Elevators are nearly always in the core of a building

the operative word here is nearly. just consider my office building to be one of the ones that are not like the normal centralized elevator buildings. i have reinforced the "I" beams all around for stability to accommodate my central stairs and exterior elevators. i think it will work well without it, other than the part where normally buildings have central elevators. i seriously put in about 4 hours trying to adjust the elevator to the center, but just nearly tired myself of it. so my next draft will have a design that i do not plan on changing up much more. i have a background. and a design with colors. i expect all of this to change, but i'm going to try as much as possible to stick to my current floorplan. i will have it up towards the end of the week.

and i do appreciate this, it's just i know the elevators would be a better fit in the center. it just messes up the movement of the map i have planned.

and i really am working on this still. it's just i have a lot going on and now i'm going out of town this weekend. so it may still be a week or two more before i get this new draft up.

It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the Foundry Moderators will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system, after an update has been made. ;-)

ok, so i know it's been a while, but i've not quit working on this. i've made numerous changes and i hope now that this will satisfy enough critics to keep this baxic plan, and make adjustments from what i have now. i was happy with the background folder, but now i'm not so sure. tell me what you think....

i think it's pretty balanced now, but i'm sure there are things that can still make it better.

i hope to hear some more opinions so i can do more to it.

thanks for whatever input you have. :-s

can i get this put back in the drafting room please. i never quit working on it. just didn't spend as much time on it as i had liked to. it took me a while to come up with what i think is a semi-final floor plan that i can use from here on out.

Nice to see some variation and playability.

Some parts in the bearing construction and routing don't look very realistic. If you make the left column of rooms (conference, human resources, president, ect.) smaller than there can be a column of rooms at the right side of the building. This will make better use of the halls and makes is more symmetrical.

I like the asymmetric basement but what does W.A. stand for?

The lobby has a strange place in the middle. Maybe move it to the right so it contains the main entrance?
