If we play like we did in game 7 we'll be alright. We dont want to repeat last year though

Oh well. We couldn't score on the power play the entire series and we paid the price.

Can't wait until we get our best two players back.

if the Flyers get goaltending that isn't mickey mouse and if they maintain their focus instead of falling asleep at times then they are going to be very difficult for any team to eliminate.

boucher just has to be average'

Where was he in the Olympics? 8-)
The World Hockey Championships is a great tournament, but it is far from best-on-best.

I actually prefer the wide ice of the Olympics/World Championships
over the NHL regulation rink.

Home ice prevails everywhere but Washington.

This. If the NHL wanted more goals pre-lockout, this would have done it without the need of trapezoids and whatnot.

That's not true. If we go back to the 2010 Olympics, they were played on NHL regulation rinks and the level of play was great and it wasn't all 1-0 games. '87 Canada Cup, one of the greatest tournaments ever played for hockey (if not the best) all the scores in the best of three final were 6-5 and they were played on NHL sized ice surfaces.

But with both those tournaments the game was played by international rules regardless of the size of the rink. I'm not saying that the rink is what holds scores low. I'm saying that with a larger rink scores would be higher and we wouldn't need all the new rules.

Other than the trapezoid, the NHL and IIHF follow pretty much the same rules. Larger rinks would not make for higher scoring games. The nest is still the same size and the goalies are still very good. Are the games played in the KHL 8-7 because the rinks are big...or because the talent is lesser?

Because of this thread, I have been able to watch my first minute of the 2011 NHL season. I forgot how much I liked hockey.

Boston has a mean penalty-killing line eh

It's not about the scoring for me, I like the style of play the wider ice presents.

I actually find the the wider ice surface a slower game. There is more ice to cover. When I still played I didn't like the larger surface either. To each their own I guess...

Meh...to each his own is right. I guess its my inner soccer mind intruding on the conversation.

I'd talk about the playoffs, but the Rangers are out, so mission accomplished for me :P

oh yeah, cause soccer is such a high-scoring sport and a simply marvelous example of how a wider field leads to more goals.

goat fucker.

 Yes, 5 on 5 is the same as 10 on 10.

The style of play on a wider rink is closer to soccer than the game on a narrower rink simply because of the extra space.

But what do I know? I'm a goat fucker for liking a certain sport. =D> Ovechkin must have pissed in your cornflakes.

EDIT: Some dimensions for you

NHL rink: 1579 square meters / 12 = 131 square meters per player
IIHF rink: 1800 square meters / 12 = 150 square meters per player
FIFA field: 4050 square meters / 22 = 184 square meters per player

I'm not sure where you're being sarcastic and where you're not. If you are using those homosexual emoticons to denote where your sarcasm begins please notify me and remain consistent; right now you're proving my point that a wider playing field does not have a direct correlation to more goals or a better (read: more interesting, exciting, engaging) style of play.
