Re: 2011 Adjacent Attacks Tournament [36/36] (Round 1 Starte
Hi all,
I have received some PMs from players telling me their concerns about some other players doing weird things against them, like attacking for no apparent reason instead of attacking the leading players.
I assume the explanation for this is the score system of the tournament. Sometimes a player may think it's better to bring down an opponent that is menacing him in the score table to ensure he gets some more points that his opponent.
Personally I believe that the best way to win the tournament is to be the first player, because that gives you 10 points and at least 3 leading points over the second player. I also understand that, when a player is clearly winning, it's fair to target the other players so you end second. But targetting a player when it's still not clear... well, I wouldn't do it, but if you want to do it that's your choice.
The only thing that I ask you is that, if you target a particular player for the tournament score, please say it in the game chat to avoid that player thinking you have something personal against him. That will avoid misunderstandings.

Re: 2011 Adjacent Attacks Tournament [36/36] (Round 1 Starte
I personally feel that this is a fair strategy, as all tournament games are part of a bigger picture than simply winning the game. In all tournaments, there comes a time when, in certain games, players need to make the decision to either go for the win and risk finishing poorly or playing conservatively and finishing second.
Again, as in each particular game, moving ahead in the scoreboard early into a dominant position can make you a target for the other players. If you've won 3 straight games, it is to everyone else's advantage to ensure that you don't win the fourth. I believe that this is simply an aspect of tournament play, and as far as I am aware, this is how CC views it as well.
I always play for the win, but when it becomes apparent that someone else is going to do so (for example, taking the Deep Lands on Clandemonium is nearly unstoppable) it is a good play to go for second place and hope that the leader chooses to eliminate other players first. Some people will employ this strategy from the beginning of the game, and to that I say if they're willing to lose the CC points in exchange for tournament points, all the power to them.

I think something similar. It seems that the main issue here has been people not thinking about the bigger picture and thinking only about that particular game. And that's why some people get the impression of unfairness and then "why is he attacking me?" thing.

agreed with denominator...that's the fun of tournaments. It's apparent that Oliver gets this as well...just something to consider when you're playing the games. There may be another reason you are being attacked. I know I've targeted players in maps, so that I can help my position in the overall scoring table.

You have 26 points more than the next player in your group. I think that is almost impossible to change in only 4 games

I want to express my angry against manu22 for deliberately giving away game 9462536 and to arno30 for letting him get the second place on purpose.
I've foed them and I'm just going to play any future game for the sake of the tournament.

Re: 2011 Adjacent Attacks Tournament [36/36] (Round 1 Starte
if you foed them, you won't be able to play the rest of the tournament.
That's why you join tourneys...the strategy goes beyond simple game play. If you don't like the winner "selecting" what order he eliminates players, then find a way to win the map yourself.

Foes list doesn't affect invitations to games. I can buy the killing order argument, but giving away a games should be highly penalized.

I think this turns you into manu's enemie even before starting the game. It will be interesting to see if the points manu will no doubt lose in later games for upsetting fumandomuerte will be worth the ones he won in this one.
