The longer answer would be unless your win condition states that yoiu must be alive to win then you win when your or your factions win condition is fulfilled.
There are some instances where survivor mechanics have been added to town or mafia win conditions (actually for a while I think it wasn't uncommon for mafia members to have survivor win conditions). Now this is getting more into balancing games and such at this point but such issues can skew how games play out. For instance cops could become more hesitant to expose themselves to lynch scum found through investigation and vanillas would be less likely to stick their neck out for the good of the town. Basically it becomes more of an every man for himself scenario.
