Why does Mande win a game in round 5 when you called it a tie ?

Nailer X wrote:Why does Mande win a game in round 5 when you called it a tie ?
Well, I had a deadlock-breaking rule in effect to avoid a tie, but as you know the deadlock-breaking rule failed to break the deadlock. (This was not a rule I made up at the last minute. It was posted in the original post, as follows:)
Perfectly in accordance with that, I came in on Oct. 17th and announced:Dukasaur wrote:Deadlocked games: Because this tournament is for people who are not in a hurry, I will not worry too much about rushing games along. However, if the last game in a round is lasting an unusually long time, I will give five days notice for the players to win, and if it is still not won at the end of the five days then I will declare a winner according to reinforcements received on the last turn taken before the deadline.
2011-10-17 07:46:30 - Dukasaur: I have to invoke the deadlocked games rule
2011-10-17 07:48:20 - Dukasaur: Five days notice: 8:45 my time (or as close to it as I can manage) next Saturday I will come here and declare a winner according to the reinforcements received on your last turn previous to that time.
However, on Oct. 22nd, when I came back in to the game, expecting to crown a winner, I found this:
2011-10-22 06:29:37 - Dukasaur: Mande 20, Bunn Ree 17, Nailer 20
So we were still without a winner. From that point on, I was asking around as to what method should be used to break the tie. Unfortunately, you three did not really make any suggestions, although I invited you to. I did get some input from other experienced tournament organisers about what they would do, but all this took some time, plus I was quite busy with R/L, so another week passed. I was ready to announce a NEW tiebreaking deadline today, but yesterday the game finally ended, so no need.
Ok, Mande has won the game, but I can see your point about me, having announced a tie. It was never my intention to leave it a tie, I was still looking for a new tiebreaking method, but I can understand that at that point, you had a reasonable expectation of getting equal credit.
So, okay, it was an epic struggle, it was incredibly close all the way through, except for the last couple days. I am going to credit all three of you (the three that lasted to the end) with a win. I think all three of you earned that much consideration.
So, the new Round 5 standings:

This is going a lot faster than I thought. When I designed this tournament I expected to see a lot of rounds before we got down to a win, but I guess I didn't fully do the math and work out how it would play out. Anyway, we are now down to 11 players.

So, we are down to five players. A one-game round. If Mande wins again, he wins the tournament, else, we go to another game.

So if Mande wins this game, he wins the tournament? Likewise, if anyone with 4 wins loses this game, they are out?

Correct.
Mande can win it on this round if he wins this game. If someone else wins, they will go into a 1v1 game against Mande next round.
