Mediterranean [map pack]

Post by Rih0 »

I am finnaly with the four maps on a great draft. I've done separated topics for them but now I'll be joining it.

This is the newest one:

The mediterranean sea: V 1.0
Image
Slovenia, Croatia, Yugoslavia, Albania, Syria, Cyprus, Israel and Lebanon are starting positions but players will also have other territories arround the map.
Starter neutrals:
Bosnia-Herzegovina start at neutral 4
Oujda, Corse, Peloponnese, Médenine and Nile Delta start at neutral 3

Corse and Sardegna: V 2.0 Added impassables
Image

Sicily: V2.0 No streets (already discussed) Ports and legend will be upgraded soon.
Image

Balearic Isles: V2.0 Smallest of them all. Finally a bonus idea. I can´t add impassables because there are no rivers or mountains into the islands

How about finishing one map before starting all these drafts... your peru map was well on it's way to the FF, what ever happened to it?

It was so many things to adjust that I didn't wanted to continue.

Well, the drafts you have here will very likely have even more things to adjust.

Peru would be the one that requires the least work from now to finished. Any of these maps will require more.

One thing a mapmaker needs is patience and commitment (ok, technically that's 2 things.) You need to have the patience to work on a single project a long time, and do the required changes to get your map up to the standards. You need the commitment to follow through on what you started, even when it gets difficult.

I understand your point, but I started making maps because it was interesting and a bit funny. I don´t feel any interest or fun on the Peru map Anymore. That's why I trashed it and began new ones.

Also, I created this topic to discuss about this 4 maps. I'll think in what you said, but what are your opinions about this ones?

How about the 2nd map?

Best plan would be to select one and stcik with it through the forums.

[Moved]

It would appear that development of this map has stalled. If the mapmaker wants to continue with the map, then one of the Foundry Moderators will be able to help put the thread back into the Foundry system, after an update has been made. ;-)

Of the maps, Sicily looks maybe the most promising.

He has given crazymilkshake 5 and I permission to these maps and we will begin working on them ASAP. He, however did not send me the original files. Is that a problem?

Well it might be easier to start with his original files if you want to investigate what he's done and how he's done it, but if you are starting from your own interpretation of the idea(s), then perhaps not.

No, I'd say you have to create your own graphics. You can't just take over someone else's and expect to be able to finish it, if you don't have the skill to create similar graphics on your own... it's just a recipe for disaster.

There's no shortcuts to learning graphics. You can use other people's files as material to learn more stuff, but eventually you're going to have to learn how those things yourself, if you want to be a serious mapmaker.

Once you take Sicily, you push north and the Axis falls in a year. ;)
