As far as a scum tell. I see mob as scum for redirecting the traffic off of him and onto me for not posting. He knows me in TNC mafia and how often I post.
Vote mob

When we play in TNC we take someone to l-2 before they must claim or look scummy.

my vote sticks on raston for calling me scummy for not acknowledging possibly the weakest bandwagon in the history of mafia. We can discuss here and find someone that is acting scummy, not pick someone at pure random.

MoB Deadly...I find this post of yours very odd. Why? Because usually, it's the mafia that post things like this to belittle/guilt/berate the townies for voting for them. Now I've seen stronger tirades, but "possibly the weakest bandwagon in the history of mafia" just sounds like your over-reacting to having some votes on you. Just saying.

It was a pathetic OMGUS vote. Mob was right to be dismissive.

So how to proceed. We could keep up pressure on Mob I guess...

I do not follow this logic. If it isn't explained I will vote for you, if it is as I think I understand it I believe it to be scummy.

Simple - I threw out a question to everybody about whether to keep up pressure on Mob and William pounces on it saying it's scummy cause I'm following? Just sounds scummy to me and like a mafia trying to appear townie by saying this. Also I had the thought that he did this as a defensive maneuver because I had joke voted him before. Early to tell anything yet tho.

I wonder if William will back up his statement considering he used it to call someone scummy.

I think he will just duck the question.

Ah, I see what you are saying then. WWs actions were not worth a vote IMO, but your logic was better then what I originally understood.

I actually understand where william is going with this (though he's wrong). It is my experience too that most mafia would attemp to be supporting whatever seems to be the town consensus in order not to attract too much attention to themselves.

On the other hand, it also "typical" mafia tactics (in my experience) to redirect the town. Mafia won't make the cases themselves, but throw out possibilities for others to catch in order to have their hands clean.

Er, that's unfortunate - it is in my nature to be very detail oriented, and ask lots of questions - not to redirect town away from scum, but to obtain the best results by engaging everyone in uncovering the truth... I take a very slow and deliberate approach to this, and although this is only my second Mafia game, I think my style settled in pretty quickly in my first Mafia game. So please keep this in mind as we go along - I will not compromise thoroughness in order to appear "more town", especially if hasty action leads to a quick lynch of a town player.

But the flip side of this is, I assume that you all are intelligent, thoughtful players... If anyone throws out something that is catchable, there is a reason it is catchable. We all read the same posts; I think we should consider all possibilities, and then select the best one. We can look back after a bit and see if there is a pattern that looks scummy, of course, but why limit the ideas from the start of the game?

Best intentions mean nothing a lot of times. What you think is catchable others may write off as nothing, while the opposite is also true. The simple fact is you may know your Town but no one else does. You may think you have the answer but if you cant get players to listen/beleive.

You will find out very quickly that if you are Town Mafia will know your Town and do their best to make you look bad with out drawing suspicion to themselves.

Your post comes across like you want everyone to beleive you are Town, which may be true but a person could also draw opposite conclusions.

How do you uncover the truth without knowing who is telling the truth?

Very good questions (does that mean you are not town, since you are throwing out questions?), and I don't know how to answer them. Perhaps after I've played several more Mafia games, I will be much more adroit with all this. Is mafia actually a popularity contest, where the most persuasive "speaker" wins? Or is Mafia a puzzle, with pieces to be uncovered and fit together to form a picture of the game landscape? I'm a nerd irl; I don't do public speaking. I enjoy solving puzzles - following the trail of clues to a logical conclusion. The more clues the better. I've never deliberately read mafia game theory - I've mainly been scrambling to understand different roles, so maybe I'm doing something wrong here by saying these things, but they just seem like common sense to me.

And I wasn't "trying" to appear town-like; I wanted to engage in a serious conversation about people being free to speak their minds without being labeled as scum.

I also don't see questions about how we want to proceed as being indicative of anything other than the asker wanting to know how we proceed. The start of a game IS confusing, if you haven't played before.

Which is a very good question, if folks wouldn't mind saying what their experience level is with mafia games...

This is my second CC mafia game, and I have never played Mafia games anywhere else, online or irl.

The best advice is to play several games to understand how things work. The second rule is to assume nothing.

In the (I believe) 3 games I have played. I have seen this happen a couple of times. 2 i think happened recently and in the same game. Eagleblade and ghostly both made comments regarding willing to follow someone else' direction. Both flipped scum.

Not only that but once I voted Eagle, he put an OMGUS vote on me, just like what is happening now.

So my vote will stay.

UNVOTE. VOTE WILDWILLIAM You may be town, but your comment #1 does two things for me:

1. I don't care for that language.
2. Mafia tend to have angry irrational responses when pushed. Iron Butterfly wasn't even really pushing you, just getting a jab in, and this is your response? You're either mafia, or need thicker skin.

Also - I've played a couple mafia games at a different website...very inexperienced players on that site. I even modded 1 and substitute modded another one, when the original mod went missing. That was fun (a fast food mafia and a West Side Story mafia). I'm in two games here now, that just started. This website seems much more hardcore than anything I've played.

1) I am asking legitimate questions. You have a strong tendency to avoid legit questions, which does not mean you are scum BUT You made a judgment on someone as being scummy. I simply asked you to back up up your accusation.

2) I am not protecting pershy. I am pointing out how you made a sweeping generalization.

3) No need for the language. Im getting tire of folks who when they cant defend their argument feel its ok to insult. Lets keep it civil please.

Ahm...I actually don't know how many games I have played. At least six, I think. But they have all been in our clan and thus more or less with the same players. That adds another flavour to it, since everyone knows how you play and vice versa. Sometimes, if you step a wee bit out of character (or what they perceive as your character), you get some heat.

Pershy, MoB, and raston (and our mod) know what I'm talking about. I think they've all experienced it.

I'm actually quite happy to try this game not set in the clan.
