What would you do?

Post by oss spy »

Game 10423822

The situation right now is grim. Red is trying to break my bonus knowing full well that I'm not his biggest threat. Green is slowly building and will eventually sweep the board. Pink is kicking everyone's ass but is focusing on Yellow, and Yellow and I have a truce. Cyan is pretty much dead...

My plan is to secure myself before taking an aggressive stance. Here's my plan:

1. Secure England and Scandinavia (3 turns if all goes well.)
2. Retake Poland and secure it (2 turns at best, 3 if I get bad rolls.)

I'm pretty sure that Red's next move will be to push into England via Denmark. The good thing is that, if he does this, I'll still (hopefully) have Sweden under my belt. If not, it won't matter because I have enough troops to ensure that he won't take it. Pink is fighting Yellow in Austria/Russia and neither of them appear to be making an headway. Pink also seems to be making sure that Green doesn't take the Ottoman Empire, which is a plus- Pink is fighting two wars and Green won't have another bonus. The bad news is that Green has Spain locked up and there's not much I can do to remedy this.

Update: Red went through Denmark and Pink broke Scandinavia via Russia, ignoring the rest of Yellow's troops. Red is in control of London, but I think I can retake England without much trouble.

I'm almost certain that war will wear down Pink. I can already tell that Yellow is worn out by fighting that war of attrition. I'm secretly hoping that Green will too. If all goes well, he'll accept my truce so that he can focus on Pink. My question, you ask?

What do you think of my situation and what would you do?

I'll bet on Teal to win this game.

Well no spoils games often turn into stale mates. I usually avoid playing them for that reason. They often result in the situation you are in.

You can play round limit in the future as a solution, but I'm not a fan of round limit either since the last turn can have a better advantage.

Since the game is sunny you will need to use diplomacy to get a win. I would try to get the enemies to attack each other, stay a close second but make sure first can never grow so big that he will get out of control. Red is at 8 troops convince everyone to take him out together.

Then convince the other players to "help" you kill the 1st place player while you grow stronger.

Even the best laid plans can go to crap when playing with low rank players that don't really care whether they win/lose, their moves are often very unpredictable.

Take provence and swiss confederation may not be a bad move...but deploying the most or having the most troops is often a reason to make you a target for all the other players. Doesn't look like you can hold much and have good defense since you have a lot of ones on your borders. Diplomacy Diplomacy Diplomacy would be my suggestion

My plan, currently, is to build up my defences for my capitols. I'm hoping to have at least 30 in Paris and London before I make an aggressive move so I can be defended against Green. In one turn, I hope to capture both Vienna, Naples, and Istanbul for the win...This will obviouslyrequire a ton of troops, but I think that I can hold off my murderous tendencies long enough for Pink, Green, and Yellow to wear themselves out.

Also, if you look closely, all of my borders are pretty well defended where it counts (the exception being at Belgium and Oldenburg). I have it set up so that any attacker will have to wear themselves out in order to get to my bonuses and Yellow and I have a truce (for now) that he won't be able to break without serious reprocussions.

You need a foggy map or really dumb opponents to pull that off. Preferably both. Just don't come crying when teal kicks all your asses.

The annoying part is how folks tend to gang up on the strongest..or the perceived strongest.

When the games get down to 3 players ususlly one person has teed off the other two enough where one person will sacrifice himself so the other can win.

Round limits are good in preventing that crap.

Do you guys think it would be wise to break Green's bonus in Spain via Catalonia? I could beef up my borders and then start a war of attrition with him (he'd be fighting on two fronts that can't reinforce each other), but I don't know how Pink and Yellow would respond to that.

Or, instead of that, I could take steps to eliminate Teal after taking care of my borders some more. I'm leaning more towards this for the sake of having another bonus (the Rhine) and getting rid of future problems. In the time it takes to consolidate my troops to defend my borders (I could move troops from Belgium and Oldenburg into Holland instead) I would have enough troops to wipe out Red and Teal...but there's the chance that Yellow would not take too kindly to this and decide to break our truce forcefully.

Alternatively, I could take Switzerland and enjoy a +1 bonus and beef up Lund, Denmark, and Hessen...I'm leaning more towards this because it would mean that I have plenty of leftover troops to defend myself if Yellow decides to break the truce.

Or you decide what to do yourself.

That was the least helpful thing I've seen in a while. When somebody asks for advice, they typically want to know other peoples' opinions.
