I'm not sure if this has been suggested before but how about a london tube map, the full one is pretty massive but it could just include the central areas, zone's 1 & 2

It has been suggested and tried before, but due to copyrights it cannot be done.

Yes , the whole thing is covered by copyrights. They sell lots of merchandise for it so it is all gone copyright route to protect that part of the business.

Re: London Underground
a lot of merchandise is sold that features the planet earth on it - so all of earth is copy righted..

never knew the earth belonged to a company

Re: London Underground
I know that there are some companies right now selling lots on the moon...
Though I'm not sure how they secured any actual claim to it...
It goes to show ownership is subjective....
And also often disputed...
Are the tunnels public domain - or owned ?
The stations - if have a proper name - could also be named as their street locations like Station on 2nd & 3rd...
Are the street names public domain or owned....
Also if the question at hand is the actual station names - then they can also be called by nicknames or discriptions -
Ruined Station, isolated Station, Smelly Station.... ect....
Honestly I do not know much about the tunnels so maybe you should just ignore me..

Re: London Underground
I went back to look through all the "OLD" London Underground threads and I finally found where someone had contacted Transport for London and here was the reply:
Now here is the reply from Oaktown:
So if you want to make a London Underground map, then you will have to use a whole lot of creative license, or base it off of the Public Domain image Oaktown posted.
Hope to see someone get this done!!

Dear Matt
Thank you for your e-mail.
I am very glad you checked with us before submitting the design. We have
a number of issues with your design, which I detail below:
1. The map is an exact copy of our Tube map and therefore is an
infringement, and as you thought requires our permission, which in this
case we are unable to give.
2. Use of the Underground logo. The red circle and blue bar is the trade
mark and corporate mark of Transport for London, and we do not allow
additions or adaptations to be to it.
3. The words GOING UNDERGROUND is also a trade mark of Transport for
London and is currently used on a children's boardgame and we would not
wish this being used on another game.
Therefore, we have to decline your request for using both the Tube map
and Underground trade mark.
Kind regards

I still really like the potential of tis type of gameplay - trying to nab a line rather than a region, where the lines cross each other and share territories.
There IS a possible solution: base the map on an underground map that is already in the public domain, namely, something pre-1923. It won't be the Harry Beck schematic that we know and love, and you'll have to come up with original graphics, but it's the same gameplay. Here's a 1911 version:

Re: London Underground
Not to through cold water on this, but a London Tube map would hit lots of other infringements like name. What I fear we will end up with is something that does not look like a tube map that anyone will recognize.
