Re: We now have burger king!!
no way. meat to bun ratio needs to be at 1 on a whopper. 2/1 is greedy and not better. It's a tough choice to do I know, because you know you will not get enough with a whopper when you order. but just order a simple and a double, have a bite at both and tell me more about the ratio!

like that thing they put in it is cheesse.

My current preference is the single also. But sometimes I'll do a married, just for variety.

Re: We now have burger king!!
When i was a kid , living in Vienna- Austria,
we used to go to Mac Donalds and asked to get a glass of water always in summer,
and we got always a nice cold Soda for free,
this was normal procedure , at least in Austria,
we kids didnt have to pay,
but we also did not have money to buy a burger, so we just took the bubbly water, for free,
as a kid, i loved this experience, since in Vienna u had to pay for a glas of bubbly water, every where
but not at mc donalds.
so occasionately we did buy ourselves as kids a burger if we managed to get money somehow,
when i was older i went to a mc donalds in Hong Kong, and i was shocked
for the money of a big mac i paid in Austria, i could have 5 ! Big Macs in Hong Kong for that money, that was great,
also Big Mäcs in the States where much bigger and less expensive than in Austria,
with Mc Donalds i have another long lasting experience which i made in Shanghai,
i have never ever seen such a busy Restaurant in my life before, it was amazing to watch the crowds.
I remember the day when mac donalds lost its reputation for me,
that was when i was eating a burger in the states but not at mc donalds,
it was unbelievable great, u guys in the states have access to the best burger places
cherish it, no way mc donald can deliver this quality u can get in local burger places,
the same for meat
i loved eating out in New york,
i did not go to mc donalds there again, since the choices where endless,
the steakplaces, lobsterplaces i enjoyed stay in my memories,
the only reason i havent been to the states since 2011 is because this morons of immigration officers put in a cell in Miami, because i had to much
redwine on the plane
but hey , dont blame me,
after i asked the stewardess of lufthansa , after my 3rd tiny glass of redwine - to bring me some more,
she said " just go there in the back, there are the bottles, and help yourselve
thats what i did
8 hours long,
and this clowns in immigration ......

Re: We now have burger king!!
there is a new thing here, still relatively small and there must be 2-3 restaurants, it's called "big fernand". tried it with some brit friends yesterday, it was quite expensive (15€ for a full menu) but it was delicious. the brits said it was their best burger ever. I had one with lamb for meat, very good, quite cheasy and with some cilantro.

Re: We now have burger king!!
I don t think so! I went just thst one time to burger king since they reopened, and since it was pretty new i don t think they needed all these promotions. By the way, there were already 2 other bk in france reopened before that one... One in marseille s airport (second biggest french city) and one in Reims (city where the champaign comes from)
What is swiss chalet, an american franchise? Noodle soup, burger and poutine? They might need to reconsider what you actually eat in a swiss chalet...what a joke!

You seem pretty upset about Poutine. It's everywhere. McDonalds even started making it. If you did not offer it people would not understand. It's just cheese curds added. Chips and Gravy has been a Canadian thing possibly since there has been restaurants. We changed to calling them French Fries in the 1980s. Fries used to be chips and the round crunchy slices were potato chips.
Swiss Chalet is an excellent casual inexpensive rotisserie chicken restaurant. I don't know if they are American or Canadian. It wasn't noodle soup it's chicken soup with shell pasta.
They have been around for over thirty years. They keep trying other things, the burgers and ribs are good. They were doing shrimp once but it was pretty bad.
I'm not sure if we went to Marseille or not. We were pretty busy in Aix en Provence going to my wife's friend's wedding. I love the whole French Med coast and the Pyrenees region. So much incredible food and nice people.

Chips and gravy is very English. What I do find funny, is that in the north of England you can go into a regular chippy and get a traditional fish and chips, or Chinese, or Indian, and sometimes there is more variety than that. But, if you go to the south this is basically unheard of.

Re: We now have burger king!!
I loved pub food when i lived in london! Fish & chips bangers & mash and all the rest.
2dimes, what i said wasn t about poutine, it s the fact of calling your franchise swiss chalet. One would expect to eat raclette, fondue and all kind of stuff you would eat in a swiss chalet.
It s like calling your franchise "thaï pagoda" and serve poutine and burgers... Or is it just me?
And it s originally a chicken rotisserie?? I mean it might be good.. But wtf with the name?? Were they high on glue?

There are some fondue restaurants but raclette is almost unheard of here.
Thai is popular here and there are tons of Vietnamese restaurants here. Vietnamese pho is noodle soups.
I think the name was supposed to make you think of coming into a warm chalet for a good chicken dinner. Kind of like a ski lodge. Their chicken soup is really close to a good home made one so we get it when we have a cold and don't want to make our own. I was pretty hungry and ended up getting a burger, my daughter wanted poutine so we got that as the side.
We decided it was just ok, not a bad poutine but not great either.

Swiss Chalet.
Ok this is pretty interesting now. I've just looked it up. It is just something that's been here for decades I never give much thought to. Now I looked it up. Canadian franchise started around 1954 in Toronto.
Swiss Chalet claims that its signature rotisserie chicken is based on a Swiss recipe.[citation needed]
Re: We now have burger king!!
Well they should ve called it lumberjack hut or something... Swiss chalet and you end up in a roast chicken specialty place.. It s very missleading! Chicken is really not the meat you eat in the alps at all...
Can you get poutine in those vietnamese restaurants?

Oh well, probably a dish from the plains. The chalet part makes me think of mountains

You can get poutine at some Vietnamese places. You can get it at practically any regular restaurant and many places that you should not expect it. Ethnic restaurants are an example. People expect it if you make fries.
I think Burger King was one of the first giant fast food place to have it. Wendy's started last year maybe and McDonalds like a month ago. Can't get it at Subway or most Pizza places. There are a few places that specialize in it.
Imagine that. You can go to "The Big Cheese." Poutinery.

I have never been North of Manchester and Nottingham. We bought fish and chips, it was wrapped in wax paper printed to look like newspaper. No mushy peas.
recently took a trip to London, found a pub that had an absolutely amazing spicy sausage roll... too bad it was the only thing good on the menu
I tried mushy peas but honestly it tasted like it looked... like someone had bought a bag of frozen peas and jumped up and down on it before microwaving it

You're not supposed to divulge the secret recipe.

We went back to Swiss Chalet but no poutine this time. We went to Wendy's for the poutine.
I think frozen peas would typically be an upgrade from mushy peas.
The best food I had in England were home made roasted potatoes cooked by my wife's friend.
Kabobs are pretty good. Fish n chips were ok. We had some nice Chinese food a few times one of the places was expensive.
I had a pretty low quality whopper in Dover.

Kebab!!!
What s so hard about this word? Also I guess many turkish immigrants starting kebabs around the world were analphabets. I did see it spelled strangely.. Even "kebap" in spain.
Anyways.. People speak so much crap about English food / food you eat in england... But i though it was pretty ok.
